Default 2011 turbo brakes and rotors for $2,100?

Pushing 85k miles and getting brakes and rotors done. Porsche shop (not a dealer, but they deal with a lot of porsches) wants $2,100, mostly because brake pads are hard to find for the 390mm front rotors? Does this sound about right? Also they couldn't find any better rotors and I wanted something with a bit more performance than the standard disc, does anyone have some they recommend?

Not sure why rotors are hard to find, they seem to come up readily at online parts stores like ECS tuning and FCP Euro and for about the same price as our cayenne diesel. I just did our this weekend and parts for everything except rear rotors which I chose to not replace came out somewhere around $500, can't remember the exact amount.

Many aftermarket vendors are listing 350mm front rotors as fitting the turbo. They simply are wrong and these won't work. Up until last year there were no aftermarket 390mm rotors. I believe there is now one aftermarket one available - and hopefully as time goes by there will be more. More will mean competition resulting in better products for less money.

As far as pads - there are lots of correct size pads for the 390mm Turbo brakes available. I'm running TRW's on mine - and they seem fine. They cost me all of $30 for both sides with an Amazon Prime special open-box deal. They seem identical in appearance and performance to the OE pads. List price on them was around $150 for the set of 4 pads.

The easy way to find pads or rotors is to simply put the Porsche part-number into Google and hit enter. LOTS of results will pop up. The trick is making certain they're the right part - not something mislabeled.

YMMV.. it's been over a year since I swapped in the new pads.

Ahh, I see. I had similar challenges when we used to own 2007 E63 AMG wagon, which was surprising since number of AMG cars used the same parts but it was difficult to find aftermarket equivalent. Couple that I found weren't any less expensive, either.

I just bought a set of CTT front rotors on eBay. $565 for the pair shipped. I almost installed them last friday until I pulled a wheel and realized how much pad material I still had left (bought them as a tire shop told me I'd need brakes soon but in hindsight realized they were actually trying to sell me brakes). The pads and rotors I bought will now sit on the shelf until I'm ready to install but they look identical to what is on the car now.

Guess $2,100 isn't bad, dobbs gave me a $2,600 quote. It's the 390mm and 358mm rotors, they're Porsche parts that have to be special ordered and takes days to get in. They gave me a $1,017 quote at first when they thought it was a v6 cayenne

that is correct, they get the turbo rotors size wrong. When dobbs first ran things and I said Porsche Cayenne turbo it came up with 350mm front rotors so they gave me a $1,017 price. I asked if he was sure it was 350mm rotors and he said he would check. Minute later came back and said no, and he would have to call me back to get me a quote on the 390mm because the places he was checking was listing the size wrong for the turbo. Hours later I had a $2,600 price from them

That's really high. Pelican Parts has them all listed much cheaper. Not to mention.. $117 an hour for labor?

Yeah, but that's the dealer! Isn't Dobbs just a chain like Firestone?

Do the 955 turbos have the 350mm front discs? I ask because on Pelican Parts it says the rotors are for the turbo model (with 350mm rotors)

did you find 390mm rotors on pelican parts? I couldn't even find them. Dobbs didn't believe me, they had to measure them themselves before they would believe they were really 390mm. I can see why, every time I look for 2011 cayenne turbo front rotors they keep coming back as 350mm

that's crazy, because the 955's weighed more than the 958, so they have less stopping power for a vehicle that weighs 400 lbs more
