Good to know that some noise is normal. I'll bring up the whine again the next time I stop at the dealer. It very possibly could be louder than the last time.

I have new reservoirs on the way. I think I'll wait to replace them until after the pump is replaced. Assuming here that the fluid in both systems will be flushed with the pump R&R.
Thanks!

I would change the reserviors before the car went in for work.

If you get the car fixed, then go home and change out your reservoirs, then the car has an issue, the dealer may not fix the car. They might blame the problem on the work you did to your car.

I'll try the flush and reservoirs first, then ponder the pump.
I replaced both reservoirs and flushed the fluid on both sides, per the excellent procedure in the DIY section, about 3 months ago. Unfortunately, no change in the PS pump whine after the flush.

Hey, that was my diy. I'm glad it worked for you. Sucks it didn't fix the problem. Maybe it is not a problem. Mine seems pretty loud. I just figured that's the way it is.

The DIY was excellent, thank you!

At this point I consider the whine an 'aesthetic' issue, the steering and PDDC work fine, but the whine just not in keeping with the character of the car.

The challenge of course is figuring out if spending $1,200 on a pump (plus at least that much in labor if I don't DIY) will actually address the whine long term...

It only gets worse to the point you're going to have to fix it. Since that's the case, why live with it any longer than necessary. I don't have the whine any longer. It's pretty silent.

And that pump is crammed in their. I thought mine was leaking and thought I was going to have to replace it. Luckily the leak was from a broken valve cover bolt. I was not looking forward to replacing the ps/pdcc pump.

maybi ask if you (or anyone) has found a way to resolve this issue? I’ve got a new pump, new fluids/reservoirs, bled the system, etc.

at the dealer on my dime, getting inspected to see if they can do anything about it.

dying here for a resolution. Thanks!

My pump is so quiet, I can't even hear it at all. However, I am in a new Audi Etron Chronos and the wifey is driving the Cayenne now.

All kidding aside, my pump is pretty quiet.

I believe the lines are attached using isolating hardware that either deteriorates or gets tossed by an unaware tech during service. Any chance that is contributing?

Cheers

There is a strong chance the isolating hardware is partially missing. I have some on order.

Could you share what this is exactly please - pic / part code?

Mine originally wasn't making a whine noise, but the pump was vibrating badly. This was replaced with a reconditioned one. Works fine but there is now quite a loud whine / whirr. My garage (indy) also replaced some missing / damaged mountings when swapping the pump. I wonder if there are more missing, or if this whine is just the normal sound when it is mounted as intended. I don't mind the noise per-se, it is just hard to know if it indicates something is not quite right, such as insecure mounting which would eventually lead to damage.
