Default PDCC Whine is finally acknowledged by dealer

Took my Cayenne Turbo on a whirlwind road trip over the holiday. We traveled from Pasadena, CA to Seattle Washington (family) From there we headed down to Portland (family) and then to San Francisco, via the coast. Quick note, do not take the coast as there are roads washed out and in some areas there is only one lane. You gotta sit and wait for Northbound traffic to have their turn and then Southbound gets theirs. You get the point.

On the way back, the PDCC pump started to whine, at least I think it's the pump. It's either that or the transmission but my pump has always whined and heading back it got incredibly loud. So loud that I actually pulled over to the side of the road to see what was going on. Got the car over to the dealer when I returned and took a spin with the tech and he said,
"ok, lets get it fixed". It's been a few days and I should have an answer tomorrow as to what it is but if it's the pump, then it's getting fixed.

Hope this helps others in their plight to get theirs fixed. If yours seems loud take your car out for a drive in first and second gear, reving it up to 5k on the tach.

Interested to hear updates as you get more info. Fortunately mine is fine, but this info would be great for future reference for those of us with PDCC equipped Cayennes.

I'm still with the loaner. It's been almost 7 days.

Got the car back today. New PDCC pump.

The noise is still present.

I know it’s probably frustrating that you went through all that and the noise is still present, but it’s my understanding that every PDCC equipped Cayenne (957 & 958 gens) have some noise/whine associated with that system. Mine has it slightly which can be heard at idle and slightly above idle. It’s not what I’d call excessive, but you can hear it if you listen for it.

Any chance you could past a video so we could hear what you’re dealing with?

OP: Did you ever find the cause of the whine?

It's the PDCC or power steering pump. Not that loud and works perfectly but it's not silent like my Q7. You'll never hear it unless you're in manual mode, rev it and let it decelerate.

Ed, isn't the pdcc and power steering pump a combined unit? Have you flush the systems? Replaced the reservoirs?

I've got a very noticeable whine (on my new to me 2013 Turbo) coming from mine, or at least I think it's the power steering/PDCC pump. The fluid level in both reservoirs was below the bottom of the dipstick when I got the car, although I haven't found a leak yet. I am going to try flushing the fluid and replacing the reservoirs as a first step and then I guess I'll replace the $pump$ if I have to, I'll be bummed if it's still noisy...

Yes, that's what I meant. Interchangable names.

System is flushed, reserviors replaced. It's normal, per Porsche.

Did the new pump reduce the noise at least?

Yes way way quieter. Night and day difference.

The sound now is something nobody notices except for me.

Ok, cool, thanks for that. I'd hate to pay all that money for a new pump only to find out "they all sound like that"...

I'll try the flush and reservoirs first, then ponder the pump.

Thanks again.

PS And now that I'm paranoid, I'm now hearing the pump on my wifes's Range Rover Sport

Thanks RAudi Driver!
My '12 CTT with PDCC has a whine that the Porsche dealer says is normal for other Cayenne Turbos. I think the 'normal whine' is a load of phooey. Did the new pump reduce the whine to what is 'normal' for a PDCC-equipped Cayenne or 'normal' for any other car with a high pressure hydraulic pump? I would like to know if I need to press my local dealer a little harder to get beyond their 'no computer faults so no problem' way of doing business while I still have a CPO warranty (I understand why they do things this way- its just frustrating when you know there is an actual problem). Is the whine truly a 'normal' sound for this equipment???

The new pump reduced the whine that I would consider normal for a PDCC Porsche. However, it's still more noticable than any other whine you'll hear from other cars.

The way to get Porsche to replace your pump is to get it as loud as you possibly can. You can do this by taxing it as much as possible. High revs in one gear and turning the car left and right a lot can help accelerate the issue. Once it gets loud enough, head back to the dealership and take the service tech for a ride and drive it in a way that will make the pump cry loud. That's what I did and it worked. They service tech said, this is too loud.

Good Luck.
