Default I passed up on a 2014 Cayenne CPO, good call?

Here’s the quick and dirty; 2014 Cayenne base, very well equipped sold by Porsche with a 2 year unlimited Km warranty.

Premium plus, pano roof, 20” RS Spyder wheels, many more options. 25000 miles (46000 Kms) accepted offer of $45000 CAD about $37000 USD

There were two big reasons I pulled out.

#1 I live three hours away from the nearest Porsche dealer. Even though I doubt the car would leave me high and dry, I had to take it in consideration, it’s an expensive tow bill. Also driving three hours to have a code figured out doesn’t make sense.

#2 And the biggest reason; the original owner changes vehicles as soon as the warranty expires, according to the service records, he did the first oil change at 8000 Kms and the second at (drum roll) 33000 Kms. That just scares the crap out of me. 25000 Kms between oil changes is pure negligence in my book. Yes, it was Moblile 1 Synthetic.

So, what are your thoughts? Good call? Over thinking?

Thanks,

Alex

#1 no need to go to the dealer. 200$ code reader and good independent mechanic nearby is a much better option. But no help for in-warranty repairs
#2 15k miles on oil - not the best.
Here is Mobil1 sales pitch on 10k intervals https://mobiloil.com/en/article/why-...eage-challenge
Also, you can see some threads where guys posted their used oil analysis reports.

Pass because of the negligent previous owner.

This question would better be asked in the correct forum, so it's being moved to the 958 subforum..

Hang on..

Owner could have done oil changes themselves or from an indy (rather than paying $500 for one at a dealer).

True, I guess the only true way to know this is by contacting the owner and getting paper proof. Speaking to the tech that did the CPO inspection would be the second best option. They did do a complete induction and fuel system service including decarboning throttle plate, air intake, valves and combustion chamber. Is that part of the 60000K service or would that be due to the overdue oil change?

thanks again

3 hours!! This isnt the car for you. If it was something big.... oh well, but what if it is something little. That is a lot of suck to get the ash tray door fixed or the sunshade on the pano roof unstuck.

Definitely pass because of OCI unless you can get more history.

Where is the dealer located and what's the vehicle spec? looking to get a sanity check for local pricing thanks

I think fuel system service is 40k - but as fancy as it sounds - it's probably a 15$ bottle of fuel system cleaner added to gas tank

The previous owner could well have changed oil himself, or used an independent.

I haven't seen a $200 code reader that will work. You really need a Durametric if you want to get ahead of the scanning issue. Maybe iCarscan will do it?

You will not find an actual recommendation from Porsche for a "fuel system" service. It could be a bottle of treatment added to the tank or there are more involved methods of injecting atomized cleaner into the intake. I have no hard evidence but I consider them to be snake oil and are simply an easy way for a shop to get more money of its customers.

If you consistently buy Top Tier gas you should be OK. I personally use Techron Complete Fuel system cleaner at every oil change in all five vehicles plus my motorcycles. Never had a problem in more than 30 years. Costco or Advance Auto regularly have the Techron on sale. I believe it is more important for DI engines.
