958 Fuel Mileage Thread
Nobody ever really talks about what kind of mileage they get out of their Cayennes. I'm thinking as a way to compile a source of information, and some fun, we could start this.
Make sure you share details of your vehicle, and maybe what kind of driving that was with. Photos won't Hurt
I'll start:
2011 Cayenne S (4.8 NA), 95,000 miles, 18" fugly wheels w/ summer tires
Best:26.7 MPG. semi-rural 2-lane road, "I'm beat from biking" lazy driving.
Surprisingly Good: 24.0 MPG cruising Woodward at night (Dream Cruise Weekend) in sport mode, "semi-spirited" driving.
Overall Average:20.6 MPG over the 1900 miles since purchase. Everything from city commuting, highway cruising, and blasting some twisty backroads.
(Will get picture of this later)

Best I've seen over 15,000 miles was a few weeks ago. 22.3MPG - done on a flat, level road where the prevailing speed was around 55-60 MPH. I did an entire tank, and was surprised to get 440 miles out of the tank before the fillup light came on. It was at about 485 miles on the tank when I filled it up, and from memory - it took around 22 gallons.
That's the EPA mileage number - and for a change they seem to have gotten it right.

We took a run out to our son's school this past weekend, 277 miles each way. 620 miles since the last fillup. This car is a monster on long trips, power over 80mph to as fast as you dare to go is simply amazing. Still have a quarter of tank. It's an oil burner.

Are your readouts right vs calculated at fill up?
It seems to me most all of these instrumented ones in the cars seem to read optimstic and show higher mileages than what you actually achieve.

From the one time I did the math, pretty accurate. I think the computer might have been .2 higher than doing the math myself. I'll check again next time I top off and remember to reset the trip odometer right then.

2011 958 Turbo
I've gotten 20-ish just driving around, but it's really really really hard not to put your foot down on this turbo for 26 gallons, so my best ever tank is 14.9mpg
My all time average is 12.8
But bear in mind, it's REALLY hard not to put your foot to the floor on this thing, and I didn't buy a 500hp Turbo to not drive it like a 500hp Turbo.
My worst ever tank was 10.8 but keep in mind I dyno this thing so that dynoing kills gas mileage obviously
I will say almost all my trips have been short trips and I rarely spend more than 10 miles on the highway so if I traveled further more often I'm sure my gas mileage would increase significantly.
Oh, and these numbers are calculated by odometer and amount of gas added. Porsches tend to report about a half gallon higher on the dash since my boxster had the exact same discrepancy amount.
And I own a hybrid camry, I've gotten 43mpg from that because I was driving it like it was a hybrid camry not a 500hp twin turbo V8 SUV
I use a app called gas tracker by fuelly. It's free. I've been kind of ocd about gas tracking for 20 years, don't know why just do it. Before phones I used palm pilots and before palms I used pen and paper.

I do recall driving it 'reasonably' and getting around 19-21. But the experience was so wretchedly boring that I vowed never to repeat it.

My 2011 CS is usually very optimistic. However I just did a 280+ mile drive down to Kentucky for the eclipse and the indicated mileage was 22.4. I filled up when I got there to avoid issues on the return trip and the hand calculated value was 24.4.

Best I've seen on the PCM is 37.5mpg for a 80 mile trip to the city and back. Average speed was well beyond posted limits...
Worst I've seen is 12.5 mpg for 3 miles from lots of idling at an AutoX class.
Calculated for a trip from outside D.C. to Lakeland, FL with one fuel stop in Brunswick, GA was 32.1mpg on the way down and 30.5mpg on the way home. At or above the highest posted speed limit on I-95.
Don't remember the MPG, but did a D.C. to Rochester, NY trip through the PA mountains (Rt 15), a couple hundred miles around the area, and then half way back through PA for 732 miles from a single tank.
If it's not obvious from those numbers. Diesel baby!

My last tank, mostly highway, the MPG indicator read 30.4 mpg. I calculated 29.6.
I have, at the most, seen it off by 1 mpg and as little as .4 mpg difference.
The diesel is incredible. I see an average of 29-30 mpg hwy.

nothing too outstanding but in general I'm pretty happy with numbers like this.... a little below 27 on a morning commute on the highway ... by the time I've gone thru a whole tank around town it is probably closer to 23 or 24 .... not near as good as my 991 on the highway but then again the Cayenne weights about twice as much.... and oh yeah the song title is not representative

Those diesel numbers.... and it's not like they're nutless diesels in them, either. Impressive.
Not that I have a problem with my 20ish average in the S, but maaaaaan would that be nice.
Maybe the next one will be a diesel.... or a Turbo. I've got about 4 or 5 years before I'll have to make that call.
