06 Cayenne pcm 2.1
So looks like I need a new pcm / nav unit. My question is my car is an 06 I have access to a 2005 unit and a 2008 unit. Will they work like plug and play or do I need a special code or dealer visit

They should both work fine but most likely the '05 unit will not have the phone button even though it was PCM2.1 so you probably want the '08 unit. Besides the '08 unit is bound to have the newer software and the '05 unit might be Level 'A' software and would require updating. It needs to match your vehicle as far as XM, Compass, CD player in dash, Bose. Bose is a different model of PCM but the compass, XM, and CD player are just coding that the dealer needs to do.
I had a '05 CTT w/Bose and replaced it with a '06 unit that had Bose, the later unit was already coded for XM so I didn't need it coded. I now have a '06 CTTS w/Bose, XM, compass, CD Player. On warranty it was replaced in '09 with a mid '08 manufactured unit. I got the XM and CD player back but didn't realize initially that it wasn't coded for the dash compass which I lost. Dealer is 2hrs away so I've never went back to get it re-coded for the compass.

My stock '05 unit is programmed for bose, XM, Compass, and CD players (in dash and changer) and worked perfectly when I removed it. I will be putting it up on ebay soon if no one here wants to buy it first. Guess I should list it in the classified section?
