Audis have a similar bearing that fails in the same manner. Many have long term success using a 3M product called Window Weld to fill in the area around the bearing. It's a black tough rubber used to hold windshields in place. Might just work with these cars also.

 

Wow. There are ton of people reporting having fixed bushings and engine mounts with this stuff... including a guy with a 996 transmission mount... very interesting indeed.

Yeah, I initially was gonna use 3M Window Weld, or simply stuff foam rubber furniture feet wedges...Jimi laughed and said Ivan Stewart's 1997 Baja 500 Tundra Trophy truck was loaded with 3M Window Weld on it, when it won.

Just did the Jimi fix to the Cardan shaft bearing mount on my 2006 S.
Failed at 106k miles. Didn't sound as loud as I had anticipated it would - but I was kind of expecting it to fail as I check it each time I change the oil and it was starting to show signs of perishing - so I was very gentle with it as soon as I heard the first noises from under the console.

A gentle 2 hours in the driveway and all done. Took it for a test drive and no sign of noise or vibration.

Same. Just a different marketing name. Window Weld works, but soon will fail due to the constant flexing it's subjected to. The Jimi Fix is nearly overkill and will last the life of the Cayenne.

 

I was a little nervous to try this, but I'm glad I didn't take it in to have a driveshaft replaced. This was super easy to do and my truck is back in action no weird noises. Very easy to do!

Fixed today, followed the directions, which were amazingly clear.

On the tie wraps though, I used ones w/ a metal "tab" vs. all nylon. They are Ty-Wrap Brand, available at Home Depot. 8" long.

The job took about an hour, and was able to fix/cure the problem. No longer sounds like a midget banging under the floorpan or armrest/console.

As an FYI, there was NO WARNING on this issue. Last night, it just went. And then, bang, bang, bang... I was only about 1.5 miles from home, so disassembled today, and the "rubber ring" was completely torn part and loose - nothing holding it together when I removed the support plate.

 

+1 2006 Cayenne S, 88k. Took about 45 minutes, no issues.

Mine thumped lightly during acceleration about a week ago, probably 100 miles from home. Made it home and shut it down till the weekend.

What size hose did you guys end up using?

 

I used 8 pieces of 5/8" about 1.5" long.

 

Looks like I'm due. This morning under hard accel, I could feel a noticeable thump thump thump through the center armrest.

Nice video. One comment - black tie-wraps are better to use in exposed areas. They are generally more UV resistant. The white ones may break down in time. Easy enough to replace the white with black once the tubing is in place. Some people have even used metal tie-wraps.
