It's a sad day. Got hit from behind on the highway last weekend. It didn't feel that bad though I did get pushed about 150 feet off the road. Insurance is totaling the car with an initial repair estimate of $19k.

I started a search for a 957 TT but there isn't much out there. As much as I try I can't fall in love with the 958.

im glad you didn't flip or anything drastic. The damage doesn't even look too severe from the photo. Where is the bulk of the damage (other than that bumper area)?

Rear quarter panel assembly, bumper, lift gate, exhaust/muffler, tow frame and rear sub frame. Also suspected damage to brakes/suspension from sliding sideways through gravel and then mud.

The road was a little congested and I was doing about 40. The guy that hit me was doing 75 and sent me spinning off the road. Luckily the banking wasn't too steep and the ground/grass was wet or I most likely would have rolled.

One down side of owning a Porsche is parts are so expensive that as the cars get older and their value drops it doesn't take much damage to total them. My car was worth about $28k per Edmunds.

What a bummer. So sorry to hear that.

We hope you are able to replace it with something you really want.

I'm sure something will pop up in stumptown. You could always grab a socal 957 and do a fly and drive too. Cayennes bubble up all the time. An interesting play could also be a similar aged ml63 although that might not be your steez. That engine is a torque monster and sounds really nice.

Serious Bummer!!! Try iDrive Autohaus for the 957, I saw a nice clean silver one on Sammy's lot there a few weeks ago.

At least there were no injuries.
Confirming what you learned it does not take much to total older P vehicles. Wife was involved in a fender bender, pulling out from a parking lot with her 2000 Boxter. The insurance adjuster commented that factory parts are very expensive for our cars and it does not take much to exceed the market value. The upside was the claim exceeded the amount she paid for the Boxter.

Wow! It held up well. If it still runs and drives I would buy it back and have a new beater. Did the airbags deploy?

oh man, that sucks!

as for the drivetrain damage - there will be none. I managed to break through ice and fall into 2.5ft of mud/ice slush in my SO's 957 TT and had to be pulled out by another car and all the damage was pretty much cosmetic - plastic protection panels and a couple of other plastic parts. we're talking chunks of ice 5 -10" thick, car with wheels completely in the air and being pulled by another car 200ft sliding on the underbody.
if the airbags didn't deploy, keep it, get a new bumper, tow frame and a nice catback exhaust system. there is no fvking way that damage is worth $19k.

That looks amazing for being hit at a 35 mph closure speed. It's part of the reason I love the Cayenne - built like a brick sh!thouse. Back when I had a treg, someone on that forum posted photos of their car after the wife hit a Dodge 1500 that was stopped on the highway. She was distracted doing 70-ish, truck was stopped for traffic, she never hit the brakes. Both doors opened, windshield was intact, no intrusion into the vehicle, she walked away. Dodge's bed was crushed like someone stepped on a soda can, and it was crushed in past the extended cab.

Totally built like a brick house. I am giving my daughter my 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee next year, and the Cayenne it is.

I have no space for a parts car unfortunately and dealing with a totaled title is just too much risk for me. The repairs will be significant though I agree 19K is ridiculous. Oh and despite a 6 inch deep dent on the liftgate it still opens and closes fine.

I just picked up a 2013 GLK350 with only 18k miles via Mercedes CPO program for $37k. Got the dealer to throw in a 2 yr CPO extension. Their CPO warranty is amazing as it is unlimited mileage.

Look at this deal:
4 years/unlimited mile warranty (1 yr remaining on factory, 1 yr CPO + 2 yr extension)
2 yrs scheduled maintenance
.99% 36 month loan and $500 towards first payment that makes net interest almost zero

I looked at a 957 GTS and new Macan S/Turbo and I have to say that I just hate their interiors.

The upside it that Cayennes are strong. My wife and I were hit about six years ago while stopped a red light in our '08 Cayenne. The vehicle that hit us in the rear was a Suburban doing about 30 the officer calculated. A young man was at the wheel and texting. Anyway the Suburban was totaled. Our Cayenne had no broken or cracked glass, the rear deckled still opened, closed and latched properly and our airbags did not deploy. We were able to drive the vehicle at 50 + mph the 45 miles to the dealer but well out of alignment. The repair included the tow hitch assembly, one side of the exhaust, new skin on the rear deck hatch and a new bumper cover plus part of the inner bumper. Cayennes are great vehicles that will protect you against the unforeseen thats why we still drive them and in fact have two.

My 06S was rear ended by a 97 year old woman in her Camry. I was stopped. She was going 50 mph.Her car was totalled. I could drive away like nothing happened. No airbag deployment. I got a new bumper skin, minor body work and exhausts. Hatch functioned as new, and no glass breakage. I drive this car every day, and at 100k, it drives like it was new.

Photo at body shop awaiting parts.
