Default Thinking of tuning diesel 958.

Aloha fellas!
I'm thinking of tuning my diesel (getting it in two weeks).
It's used, has 100.000 km on it and I wanted to ask if it would be dangerous for the engine reliability if I chip tuned it.

WHY!! Drive it for awhile. I think the diesel as it comes is a great vehicle with plenty of power and more than enough low end torque

Because I currently own a 745 diesel with 330 hp. I believe the difference is HUGE. But still, I'll follow your advice buddy. Thanks!

Get it done, the 745d is a nice ride and you'll feel underpowered.
Btw, there is no 745d in the US and I believe no diesel v8 in any high end european car so people can't compare.

Doubtful

Several here have run the Blue Spark tuning with good results.

Depends on how far you take it. The EU has a bunch of options while the North America market is very limited (different ECU tune from the factory apparently).

Bluespark in the UK did a lot of work with us to get a version of their box tuned for the U.S.

From 245 to 300 or something. Is it too much?

Of course you will.

You're going to wind up increasing temps with whatever you wind up doing. More power - whether generated by extra fuel, timing, pressures - will increase the heat of your engine or exhaust and heat is the biggest threat to your engine.

That said, diesel engines are made tough and generally not tuned to their maximum performance capabilities for a variety of reasons, durability/longevity being one, so they can take the extra performance mods generate.

In the pickup tuning world, the vast majority of people who tune their diesel engines will first add exhaust gas temperature probes, boost sensors and fuel pressure gauges, depending on what mod they've done. This allows them to monitor and control those parameters to prevent overboosting, over-pressuring and over-temping the engine.

I don't know if there are kits to fit these types of gauges or monitoring options for the Cayenne. A lot of mods just add the power, but may not have limiters at the top end.

Increasing heat (and pressures) will have longevity impacts on any engine. Diesel engines are built tougher than gas engines (because of the inherent higher combustion pressure required), so they are more durable. They will tolerate higher operating conditions better than a gas engine, but ultimately, their life will be shortened by mods; maybe they go from a 25 year life to 20, though... so it may not matter in the long run if they're not abused.

ABT offers a tune for every diesel engine in the whole VWAG lineup without loss of original warranty if you wanna go that way.
I'd say screw it and mod it, you're going to be out of warranty anyways. If your turbo goes - so what, there's a ton of them all over europe dirt cheap, te 3.0 diesel is in every second car.

Get a reputable tuner do the tune (don't add a "powerbox"), have him dyno the car before and after. I don't know where you are from but such a mod goes for around 1000 euros over here.

To all the naysayers, do you have any idea just how many people have tuned the VAG 3L diesels around the world? A mild tune is not going to blow up the engine. I would focus on a DPF delete at the same time though.
