Default E-Hybrid E-Power Range

On Monday my wife and I became proud owners of 2 2016 E-Hybrid's. At full charge the vehicles read maximum range of 16 miles. Should we expect this range?

Any feedback is welcome.

I've had mine for 3 weeks - 16 is the norm although I have seen 18 after one charge. And just returned from a 40 mile trip - ran out of electricity at 19.8 miles so in this case 16 = 19.8.

With nearly 10k miles on mine I would agree. I normally see 16 on the gauge (little less when it's really cold).

I find hills really suck the battery down fast. So I tend to maximize my range by going gas when driving up steep hills. If you switch to gas (either by pressing the ePower button off or simply using the paddle shifter to drop a gear) it seems to go into gas mode for just short of a mile before it will let you go back to electric only.

Has anyone installed a charger in their garage? If so, which charger? The basic Porsche unit or another brand?

Thanks again!

P.S. I need to post pics.

Installed Porsche unit after adding 240v outlet - level 2 charging takes 2.5 hours v. 9 hours using 120v. Clean install - I didn't use the big box but just used the mounting hardware provided.

Here's some good info:

Thanks, great information. Once the basic unit is mounted, can it be taken off for travel?

Yep - it just snaps into the plastic mount.

I installed the Schneider EVLink charger as the Porsche unit (with the cabinet) was too bulky. The EVLink is very slim and works great. I leave the Porsche Charger in the bag for charging at the airport.

The EVLink was $499 at Home Depot when I bought it (plus got 10% off) and my Power Company gave me a $500 rebate...so I actually came out ahead

I have the 7.2 on-board charger which the EVlink supports (it is rated upto 7.2kw also). I get a full charge in just over an hour.

Hi, I am looking at getting a CPO Cayenne SEH.

Have you taken your SEH on a long distance road trip since? I imagine you keep in the default hybrid mode? In this case are braking and coasting enough to keep the battery recharged the entire time? Say I am driving 8 hrs from SF to LA, will I have about 16 miles of full charge by the time I arrive in LA traffic?

I have mine for 4 months now and while I originally was getting 16 miles, I now only get 9-11, it's like the range slowly sank every month. I'm not sure if there is something wrong, I live in Northern California, so it's not due to cold temps. What does the forum think, any feedback appreciated? Peter

I always get 16 miles when charged using the EVSE but only 12 when using the engine and then the car goes back into regular hybrid mode.

Mine (2016) consistently shows 16 or 17 as the fully charged range here in the Rockies. I'll second the notion that hills (particularly those of the mountain variety) drain it much faster than more level ground, so I too use the gas engine to maximize the battery output.

I'm able to charge at the office (free) and at home on 240v; averaging about 71.3 mpg in my first 2 months.

Last week I finaly brought the E-Hybrid into the dealer as my driving range had dropped to 5 miles on the display, 6-7 miles actual distance based on odometer. Through "Calibration" the range is not 9 miles according to the dealer. The factory is saying that the range is "Adaptive" to my driving style, and the battery is working as expected. The factory also thought I was not discharging the battery fully, which is completely untrue as I have a 20 mile commute and discharge the battery twice a day. Currently Carlsen Porsche agrees that something is wrong with the battery pack. We'll see how this plays out.

I've not had mine that long. But I've done a few fairly long trips round Iceland. "Sailing" and braking in the recovery zone is pretty effective on long journeys at keeping the battery topped up. But it does depend on how aggresively you drive in the hybrid mode, and also what kind of incline you are doing close to your destination... Up is obviously not that good.

Coming back into Reykjavik, from elsewhere in Iceland, is generally downhill so in my case I am able to "Sail" a fair bit and have a pretty good charge as I finally hit home.

Into town from my house is about 12kms.. Again, mostly, downhill. I can pretty much get into town for what feels like free, and arrive with a full-ish battery. The drive back out of town will take the battery down to almost nothing if I am light on the throttle and try to use battery power as much as possible.
