Default CTT rear differential will not lock

CTT 2008-----Front and center will lock, but rear differential will not go in lock mode. NO CODS generated and the two rear D. fuses are missing. Why no CODES?,

Rear differential lock was not standard on the CTT. It was an option.. and not a very common option either. Are you sure you have it? Check your vin # for option codes and report back.

Hmmm, I did not know that

So would that explain why when I push the rocker forward once I get 1 LED, twice I get 2 LEDs but if I push three times I don't get a third LED?

Apologies for the explanation but I`m doing this from memory

Yes. That's exactly what happens when you don't have the optional locking rear differential.

There is no front differential lock. The square in the middle is the Low-Range, and the front light is the center diff lock. The rear light would only come on if you had the off-road package.

Or a 958 with PTVPlus.

Thanks All! By the way, there was no electrical connection or mechanical connection to the rear differential, so no option.

That's a whole different system. There is no low-speed transfer case on a 958.

It's a whole different car... I was just clarifying your statement as there are 958 readers in this forum too, and there's no "off road package" with 958's yet they do have the ability to have the rear differential lock despite not having this package.

That is true even for 955's. You could get the rear locker option with the Advanced Offroad Technology Package or just option code 1Y1.

I know it's a separate option code listed on the build sheet, but I've never seen that option code listed on the ordering guides. AFAIK - only the Touareg folks had the ability to get a rear diff locker as a standalone option.

My '06 CTTS has the 1Y1 option but not the unlocking swaybars. And I do have the electronic locking rear axle. There is a manual insert that came with it warning about different fluid in the rear axle too. I think it is just the normal gear oil but with a friction modifier like most limited slips have. I would like to see one apart and find out what it is made up of? Clutches? It's electronically activated.

You would be the only person I know that has a setup like that. None of the ordering guides show the ability to order a locked diff as a standalone option, except when getting it on the off-road package. You've got a rare beast, there - def not the norm.

I do have the Offroad Navigation in the PCM (breadcrumb trail) but I wish I had the un-locking swaybars too. Not that I would probably ever use them as I have an old FJ40 Landcruiser that I don't mind abusing once in a while.

They're really capable off-road. The hard part is getting rocked around inside the car. At some point, I'll get into a 958 Turbo - and PDCC will be a requirement. We have to creep at less than walking pace when we're in the chunky stuff because it's so violent inside with stiff sways.
