Interesting, so by doing all of this at the same time they will have absolutely no idea of what was wrong with the car.

 

If this is a permanent fix, then my guess is injectors/fuel pump. When the fuel pump went on my 325 it just died, restarted a few times, then went flat line altogether -- no smoke at all. On my x5 and a colleague's x5, there was black smoke then flat line with the injectors so my money is on the injectors.

Can you find out the build date on your vehicle?

 

I concur. I've had 3 Rovers (2006 LR3, 2008 RRS SC, and a 2008 RR HSE) and all were reliable and dependable. We still have the RR, and it has been the most reliable vehicle we have owned (Lexus, Porsche, MB, Jeep). This truck goes offroad at least once a month, and does not lead an easy life, but gets aggressive servicing twice a year.

I would still far prefer driving a Cayenne on the road over any Land Rover, however. But nothing cossets a driver on and off the road like a full-size Rover. The 2010+ Rovers do seem to have a number of electronic gremlins and issues with the water pumps, which seem to be a wear item (replace every 15 - 20K miles).

Yeah, not happy about that. I won't have a paper trail of what actually went wrong if this happens a 3rd time.

 

At this point I'm at a loss , and sounds like the service manager and tech are at a loss as to what the problem was , or problems were. It this happens a 3rd time it will be another circus act to figure out again I think.

 

Semi-agree on the LR vs Cayenne on the road. Even in comfort mode on long drive I find the ride a bit harsh just cruising along at 70-85mph range. Now when I need to get somewhere, yes the cayenne is the vehicle to get somewhere , with a huge fun factor added in. RRS do handle well, but not like a cayenne. BUT you take a RRS vs Cayenne off-road or in winter weather.... Rover hands down !

My 12 was a hand full,But my 09 RRSSC was the best out of the 3 I've had, more often than not, it went between oil changes without a extended visit ( longer than an oil change & tire rotation visit) to the dealer.

I ordered a 16 Range Rover Sport Autobiography, Yulong white w/accented black roof, Red and Black leather, with all options except for the rear DVD ( our dog doesn't watch TV , no need for them or the extra $2K expense), heads up display, all the driver assistance features, 1700.. yes 1700 watt surround sound Meridian sound system. Was $106K, minus repeat buyer of $2500. So soon we'll get rid of the Audi 12 q5 trading it for my RR, and the other 1/2 will get the current Cayenne.

 

I haven't been irate with this dealer, They took me in right away since they noticed I wasn't from the area and they asked if I was on a trip . I said yes , service manager stepped in and told the service advisor to pull a tech off another job and get me in. So I can't complain about that dealer. I can complain about the vehicle though, 2nd time and they've thrown 6,10,15K? worth of parts at it in almost 2 weeks ? and lets not forget the labor costs and rental car expenses, That is a bit ridiculous for a vehicle that has 28K miles on it.

I'm waiting for the 2pm EST call to see what the latest is on my vehicle.

Even though they threw the proverbial parts bin at the car, you might want to also ask if PAG has asked for all of the parts removed to be sent back to them for forensics.

I hope this is the beginning of the end of the problem.

 

At 2 they said all parts were being sent directly to Germany to be looked at .

They test drive it 3 times , I asked them to drive it tomorrow as well . Service manager asked if the shop foreman could take it home . I agreed if they signed a document stating they were 100% liable if anything happened to it which it sitting on my inbox

and the fiasco continues !

The shop foreman took the vehicle home with him ( was told 16 miles to and from ) on the way in today, my lovely performance SUV died on him on the highway just before getting off the exit for the dealership, and had to be flatbed the rest of the way......

Supposedly PNA is sending one of their factory reps to the dealer , and as of 10 mins ago they did not have any idea on when that was going to take place.

 

This is definitely a wiring harness issue. I'm willing to bet $$ on this...

 

They already replaced 3 wiring harnesses to the engine when I first went to this dealership. I told the service manager today that, we are over 2 weeks on this major failure, and that I'm giving them until next Thursday to repair the vehicle, if it is not 100% repaired by then PNA better crank up the printer and print out a check for me or replace it. I also informed them that I pro-actively ordered a new Rover Sport because this vehicle can't be trusted, I appreciate and thanked him for his professional communications ( he's been very good about calling me with updates) and his shop foreman efforts to resolve the problem, escalating to PNA, and germany.
