Basalt Black
So my 955 CTT showed up Friday afternoon. I drove it about 2 miles, parked it in the garage and that was just about it. Just been swamped with work and life. Today I had an opportunity to really go over it, spend time with it and drive it.
She is pretty dirty, IMO. Even making the cross country journey in an enclosed carrier, it still got quite dirty and dusty. Unfortunately with the snow melt we have here in CT she will be dirty for a while, as it will be a while before she gets a good proper detail.
I wanted to comment on the Basalt Black color. Now, in pictures of Basalt Black Porsche cars, I just assumed that it was Porsche's fancy word for 'black'. I have 3 other black vehicles and they are just that, black. Basalt Black on the other hand may be the most beautiful shade of black I have ever seen. I noticed today that if caught at certain angles in the right light that there are subtle hints of blues and even coppers and golds. Very pretty. I can't wait to give it a good clay, polish and wax to really get the finish to pop!
Can anyone else say the same, or am I loosing it? (Answer the first part, not the latter.)

Yes. It's a whole lot more than just "Black."
It's a whole lot more than just "Metallic Black."
I'm not a big fan of black. It's not a color I'd choose.
My CTT had enough of everything else, that I didn't mind the color.
It's growing on me.

All the others, the Cayenne included, just happened to be the 'right one' upon my search from the standpoint of things like overall condition, mileage, options, et al. And wouldn't you know, they just so happened to be black. Silver is my favorite. It looks great, classy, always looks clean and is extremely resilient. Black is just so delicate......but it does look fabulous when clean.
Cheers.
Basalt Black is a great color. But, like any black, it is impossible to keep clean. My GTS was filthy not ten minutes after being detailed.
This picture shows just how much metal flake is in Basalt Black. You can see a little bit of the other coloring as well.

I went back over to the Cayenne briefly yesterday. I took a closer look at the paint, it's almost surprising they even call it 'black'. Yesterday under fluorescent lights it was basically a deep sapphire-metallic blue. If a laymen was called over and asked what color they thought that was, I can almost guarantee they would say some sort of blue.
I'm not complaining, I really like it. It compliments the Havana interior beautifully.
