Default Power Liftgate Retrofit

So I was looking at the 2010 power liftgate option. It looks like it is operated via a hydraulic pump and two-way ram to run the gate. So now I'm toying with the idea of going through the process of attempting to retrofit the system into the wife's '06.

For the questions!

Does anyone have actual pics and/or measurements of the pump, lines, struts, and mountings?

And do the struts on the power liftgate models fail as often as the non-liftgate models?

I was wondering the same thing. Hopefully, another member has already traveled down this road and had success.

I have seen this work but too much hassle installing it.

Cost is not much.

That module is just to allow for remote closing on a vehicle already equipped with auto open. I'm talking about adding all of the pump/modules/struts/lines/wiring/programming to add the feature to a vehicle which does not have it already.

Not happening on a 955 unless you have tons of cash to throw at it. The body would need to be modified as the 955 gen cayenne never had this feature to begin with. You could maybe add it to a 957, but you'll be drilling and cutting into a 955 body to make it work, on top of having to add all the hardware and wiring.

Do you know (or have pics of) exactly which sections would require modification?

It looks like the hydraulic pump would fit where the 955 rear storage compartment is, then run lines up through the rear trim to the headliner to the lift actuator/strut?

On models with electric motors/gears for the lift I could see where it would be a catastrophic PITA, but with the struts running horizontally and using a hydraulic motor it should be significantly less of a PITA.

Nope - but if you've ever been behind the trim panel of any porsche or audi, you'll know that even mundane control boxes have elaborate mounting specs. Anything is possible in these cars, but you're going to spend a ton of money doing it. Not only would you have to fabricate the gear box mount, you'd have to cut holes and drill mounting holes for all the plastic trim that holds the hoses in place. Modify the roof for the same reason. Run the wire harness to the motor and connect that into the ECU, and then you'd have to replace the whole trunk trim piece to make room for the wiring harness and the button. I don't even know how you'd get around wiring this up since the ECU wasn't coded to even show a motorized trunk module. You might be able to bypass the ECU, but then you'd need to the ignition to be on for it to get power.

Like I said - it's one thing to add this when it was offered as an option, but to add this when the body was never made for it, and the ECU wasn't built with having that control module even available - you're going to have a long uphill battle.

If this is a must-have option for you, you'd be much better off selling your car and buying one with it.

I am with wrinkledpants on this one. You would be opening up a whole can of worms and a barrel of monkeys.
