Default 2006 turbo s or 2008 turbo

First post here and appreciate the information.

My C63 AMG with winter tires is not cutting it during this winter so I'm looking at options. There is an '08 with decent options listed for $40k/47k miles but also an 06 turbo s with 57k miles for $37k. I know the '06 will need to have the coolant pipes changed, new tires on and probably some general maintenance but I think I could pick it up for around $31k. However, the guy won't let me do a PPI. The autocheck and carfax look ok.

What would you recommend? This is in the Midwest winter land.

Thanks,

Peck

He won't let a potential buyer do a PPI? Well that begs the question, why? What is he afraid a PPI will find?

Sounds like he has disqualified himself as a seller and his Cayenne as a worthy buy.

Nothing worrisome about a guy won't let you do a PPI

With no PPI permitted, do you really need to ask??

The 2008 is very close to the same specs as the '06 CTTS. However, I would strongly recommend a few searches on autotrader with distance from zip set to all - to gauge nationwide pricing for 08's.

I went through the same dilemma last September and ended getting an 06 CTTS. No regrets since.

Recently had the same dilemma and decided to just look for the first right 955 Turbo S or 957 Turbo for the wife. We ended up with an 08, and I'm very happy with it. Personally I like the face lift, and the PDCC is really impressive. Good luck!

I too am looking at the same choice here- between a '06 Turbo S and an '08 Turbo. I would really like to get one with the PDCC, so I am leaning towards the '08, but how can you tell if the vehicle has PDCC? Dealers and owners really don't have any idea... On some, it seems to be labeled right below the shifter. Is that true of all PDCC vehicles?

Thanks!

Cheers,
TomF

The suspension controls are all silver if it has pdcc. Otherwise it's silver and black without it.

Yup. The silver buttons are the giveaway.

Are the brakes the same on the '06 Turbo S as the '08 Turbo? The stopping distances are the same. Also, in terms of increasing HP and Torque, which one has the more potential with an ECU flash and other minor changes? Compression on the '06 is 9.5:1 and on the '08 10.5:1 so in theory the '06 can run at higher boost levels... or is it already running higher, hence the higher HP/tq numbers despite the smaller displacement?

Cheers,
TomF

The brakes are not the same on the 955 Turbo S and the 08 Turbo. The 08 does not have the 2 piece rotors. Sizing is similar, I don't remember the specs off hand. The Turbo S brakes are just a smidge bigger diameter. Performance is almost identical, and a big improvement IMHO over the standard 955 Turbo.

In 2009 the turbo brakes were changed slightly again. I don't think there was much difference, but the caliper design changed a little bit.
