Hey y'all -- I'm just visiting from the 993 board

I thought you'd be amused by the following story. I just wrote it up for the porsche 911 story contest, even though its really more about the Cayenne . . .

The Torch is Passed

My two-year old nephew loves large machines. Nothing captures his attention like farm equipment, construction vehicles, aircraft, and trucks. The one exception to this fascination with huge vehicles is a Porsche. Thanks to me and my Porsche, a 993 C2S, he gets just as excited when he sees a 911 as he does when he sees an eighteen wheeler. With an eager shout and an outstretched hand, he’ll cry out “Porsche! Fast car!” Each time, every time. Its always “Porsche!” followed by “Fast car!” and he will stare at the Porsche until it fades from view.

Recently, my sister telephoned me to inform me of his latest discovery. It seems she was walking with him in town and, as usual, he was running up to various pickup trucks and SUVs parked on the street and yelling “Truck!”

Except this time he happened upon a new Porsche Cayenne. Joyfully running up to the SUV he shouted “Truck,” before coming to a bewildered halt when he spied the Porsche crest on the wheels. Crouching down, he took a good long look at the crest emblem on the front wheel. From his squatting position he turned to my sister and quietly asked, “Porsche Wheel?” “Yes,” my sister replied, “its a Porsche truck.” Still confused, he stated, “Porsche . . . truck? . . . Porsche truck?” Then, suddenly, comprehension took hold and he went ballistic -- gleefully shouting and pointing “Porsche Truck!” “Porsche Truck!” Two worlds have collided, my passion has been passed to the next generation, and my sister is going to hate me when they go shopping for his first car.

Anyway, I found this entire incident hilarious. Happened about 3 months ago. Of course yesterday I was having to explain to my nephew that a Hummer, unlike the Cayenne, is NOT a fast truck.

Same thing happened to me when I brought my Cayenne home. My five year old daughter is nuts over my 930. When she saw the Cayenne in the driveway she stated "Oh dad, we got another Porsche!" When I asked her how she knew it was a Porsche she said "Those little painted things on the wheels are the same and there's a shield on the hood." I sometimes forget how observent they are. She's got good taste!

 

can I come be your kid? I'll wash em, wax em and I don't eat much!

 

 

Ah yes. We must teach then the Truth that is Porsche. Mine is an 11 month old boy that already knows Daddies car and other cars. No specific words yet, but a solid, straight arm and pointing finger, and a "Dah".

Good enough for me right now.

 

Every year, we take a trip from LA to Vegas. The last few years we have taken the Navigator. So this year, because of the ridiculous price of gas, I asked my kids which car they wanted to take, hoping they'd say the new Honda. My older one said the Navigator because it is more comfortable. My younger one thought for a moment then blurted out, "the Porsche!".

Porsche...Fast car...Porsche Truck...fast...Porsche...truck...Porsche...I AM SO CONFUSED!!!
