Default Tools to maintain a cayenne ?

Now that I got my cayenne , I want to invest in some hardware tools. Like wrench, torque wrench, plastic prying etc etc. what are the tools that you got to have to make the job easier and safe?

I am planning on changing coils, spark plugs, camshaft sensors. Eventually starter and other maintenance. I don't think I can lift the car and take care of things from below. I am scared and paranoid to go under a car that was lifted with a normal jack.

Please list some tools and links to the products.

You can do most things with a basic metric socket set. Only tools that tend to be unique to german cars are hex bit set, torx bit set, and a triple square set. You'll likely need a bit driver for the smaller torx bits, but the hex and triple square can be purchased in 1/2 drive.

I would invest in a test light make things easier for checking blown fuses or checking basic circuits for power and ground. I have a set of snapon trim tools for getting panels and fasteners off as well. A really good flashlight or trouble light for those hard to see spots. The dura metric scan tool is a bonus for seeing trouble codes and avoiding visit to dealer.

My other car is a Chevy Avalanche. Now that i bought 2 Cayennes which both needed and still need some repairs, i noticed that almost all tools are the same, all i bought is a set of xzn or triple square bit. Having a universal scan tool i haven't bought Durametric (yet).

Others have mentioned most of the ones I would suggest, the only one left out is the External Torx (also known as E-Torx) sockets. (google them)
I've been very pleased with the Schwaben tools I've purchased over the last few years. Probably not a pro tool but a damn good w/e mechanic's tools.

I'm not finding the Schwaben e-torx but this is an example of them, I would also get the "deep drive" versions.

Edit: I have the K-D version of these swivel spark plug sockets, worth their weight in gold.

Durametric cable
Swivel spark plug socket set
Oil filter socket
A good assortment of torx, triple square and metric sockets and bits
ESCO jack stands

Beyond that, it's just normal tools.

Thanks for all the input. I started looking for a mechanics tool set with a case to start with. That way I can have a portable set and not misplace the tools which I always end up loosing.

Or

and 11" to 15" extension

Will need a nice flash light and i am also thinking of a boroscope to play with. They were around 100$.

I was also thinking of investing in Durametric and recoup some of my investment by helping local Porsche enthusiasts. I am from Dallas are and I could not fin anybody providing this service.

Don't forget this one.

Outside that, normal metric tools. The only special difference compared to my other german cars would be a larger use of triple square on this car. My craftsman set is 20+ years old and probably the better tools than what they sell today. I use Armstrong ratchets. Good value and feel 'almost' as good as snap on. Almost. For 1/3 the price. US made too.

Just don't get the newer Craftsman hex wrenches/sockets. They're sized a little small, if the bolt is on tight they will bugger up the heads. I have a tool drawer half full of them, don't know why I didn't figure this out much sooner!

Hey Bill, it's been a long time since I was over on the 993 board! Thanks for the tips. I purchased both of your recommendations above. They arrive this weekend.

Cheers,
TomF
