I admit to being utterly baffled by the nature of SUV's. I'm used to simpler more elemental vehicles and the items which I suppose are supposed to be convenience items confuse me not only in their existence (why?) but use.

My 08TT used to light up like a Broadway marquee when I stopped at night. The last thing I want are lights on inside my car (or outside of it for that matter) when I stop in the dark. Whose idea was this - the Muggers' Guild?

Anyway, through a combination of the Settings and flipping some manual switches, I finally got most of the *#&#& things turned off. Yet one set remains and it's by far the stupidest least useful light in the Earth's existence. They are footwell lights.

Who TF's idea was this to light up my feet when I stop? What possible purpose can be served by me, in the dark entirely, being able to see only one thing - my shoes in the footwell?

So I'm guessing that once more I"m missing the point. As Desi Arnez would say, "Would someone plees 'splain me..." the reason for these lights? What purpose do they serve? Is there a way, short of pulling the *#&# bulbs, to turn the stupid *#&A# things off?

A light in the footwell makes gathering any bags or items left there far easier. Ever had a woman leave her purse by her feet? Ever dropped something into a footwell? It's purely a convenience thing, but it can be useful.

I have no idea how to turn them off.

Thanks for the insight. My wife is never had a difficult time finding her handbag in the foot well. It's not as if the foot well is 20 acres large.

I don't doubt you're right though. I wish somebody could tell me how to turn the darn things off.

I like them but I tend to drop things and don't live in a mugger prone area.

I can't find anything in there which I've not turned off. Did you have a specific suggestion?

I don't care they're there if I can turn them off. I find it bizarre that these are the only ones I can't as they strike ms as the least useful even if some find them so. I mean, we're not all alike.

You adjust them with one of the buttons on ceiling console. Press and hold. You can turn then totally off if you want. I happen to think they look cool.

They are dimmable via the buttons on the overhead console. The two buttons with the "ramp" between them will be the ones to use.

I may have played with them. I am looking to douse them and not just dim them. Need to await my next run in the dark.

I love having the footwell lights. And they are nothing new, my previous 2000 MB S class had them.

I too am a footwell light hater...On a recent jaunt over Highway 20 in WA at night, the darn things were driving me crazy. Shame on me for not reading the manual before I left. I just couldn't bear to pull over and get stuck behind all the Rvs that I had passed! I guess I should have

Cheers,
TomF
