Totally different cars. Cayenne is pretty small for an SUV, both in cargo space and rear seat leg room. Any Lexus LX is going to be substantially bigger. I mean, it's heavy, not as sophisticated, cheaper to by, cheaper to own, has cheeper build quality, will eat more gas - there isn't much to compare.

What are you looking to do with it? That should dictate pretty quick what you'll want.

Comparing a Cayenne to a Lexus LX470 is like comparing apples to oranges. A better comparison would be to a Range Rover Sport or Mercedes Benz M-Class AMG. I tihnk a GX460 is bigger then a Cayenne too.

The Lexus will always make a more practical car. The Cayenne will do what you want if the boat is within the towing capacity, and you buy something other than a V6 Cayenne. But, it'll be up to you to decide if the fun and prestige of a Porsche is worth the costs over the Lexus. The Lexus has a cavernous trunk where the cayenne's cargo space is pretty small. *shrug*

My CD tows fantastic. The big issue is getting any tire work done at the track. almost impossible to fix 4 wheels inside and the fact that who wants to put dirty race wheels inside your Cayenne, or fuel.....

Being a full ladder frame with the third row seats results in the LX not being as roomy as it should be for a 6000lb 197" long truck. Rear-seat space and headroom are tight for a massive SUV.

LEGROOM (FRONT / MIDDLE / REAR) 42.9 / 34.4 / 28.3 in

If you are going the LX route - I would look at a Range Rover or Merc GL - air suspension and much more interior room - lighter too.

And, the Lexus reliability over a Range Rover will be pretty substantial. There seems to be some practical reasons the OP is looking for an SUV, and when you factor in how much the range will be in the shop, I'm not sure it makes a lot of sense for someone that can't/won't want to miss a track weekend.

I like the LX series for what they are - big, reliable SUV's. But, if you don't absolutely need the interior space, I'd get the Cayenne. Wheels can be put on the roof, fuel on the car trailer, etc. Where the cayenne isn't great is getting 4 adults and 4 bags for a week inside. But, I didn't see that need listed anywhere.
