Default To CPO or not to CPO... that is the question...

I decided to get a Range Rover Sport (RRS) to replace my wife's 2011 Cayenne that is coming out of lease next Friday. The 2015 is not available until December so she needs a car between now and then. I decided to buy off the lease and will sell the Cayenne in December just as the RRS arrives. To be specific, the Cayenne auctions for cars like my wife's go for between $39,000-$40,000. The payoff is $33,500 + tax so call it $36,000 (California...) all in. I can get a CPO from the dealership for $4,000, making the total just over $40,000. I just can't imagine that much will go wrong with the car in the next 6 months since nothing has gone bad since we got it... so if I buy the CPO it's for the next person... question therefore is: Will I get $4,000 more for a CPO car in 6 months or not? I can either sell with no CPO for around $35K and with CPO around $40K... that's about 7k less than dealerships are selling for today... I'm thinking I shouldn't do it but would love to hear the group's thoughts. must make decision in the next 72 hours.

65 views and not one comment???? I normally only hang in the 997 GT2/3 and 987 forums and people are always vocal there...

It appears you have done your homework and having it CPO'd should pay dividends imo.
I'd say go for it.

Maybe you can get a dealership to come down a bit on the CPO.
I thought i had read closer to 2500 to get CPO'd.

Thanks for the feedback. The CPO costs the dealership 2390 from Porsche. They have a 5 hour process to check everything which they charge $500 for. Then these guys obviously need to make a profit which is the extra $1000. Total is $3890 + tax so a tad more than $4000. I'm thinking that I'm better off selling the cheapest 2011 Cayenne in the country w/o CPO for $4,000 less than selling a CPO for $5,000 less than a dealer but still with a number that starts with a 4... I'm obviously ambivalent about it... and I'm still considering just selling the car as is to CarMax right now and renting a car for a while... Not popular with my wife I'm afraid

Yes, that's why I wrote that I would be buying the warranty for the next owner...

No way in hell I would pay $4k to CPO a car I was going to sell in 6 months. You won't get your money back from it. Best bet IMO you'll get a buyer you wouldn't have otherwise and MAYBE $2k.

If you sell privately, the CPO will be worth about $1-2k more to the buyer. If you trade it in, likely there is no value to the dealer. I'd pass on the CPO given the situation.
