Default Next issue i'm tackling-Fuel Gauge

Ok so if you haven't been keeping up. Newb with '04S. 110k ish miles. Going thru normal pains of a used vehicle. Next issue to tackle is the fuel gauge. It goes read full when it's full. Only goes to about 3/4 mark. My indy mech has durametic and did a test and the guage did sweep to full mark on guage test so it's not the guage. We're thinking fuel level sender but which one? Any help here apprecitated.

Do you have service records? See if either fuel pump has been replaced. Most common is the left side. Often, the float on the level sender gets caught on a transfer hose during the pump installation.

No records. Driver's side? I'll check it out. Thanks Tim.

Did a quick inspection. Drivers side hasn't been touched. Found a hose for tire inflator! Carpet was still glued/perforations hadn't been broken. Passenger side another story. Perfs on carpet are broken but still glued. Guess I'll start on that side. Have you done this Tim? Looks like one nut for the cover is under the seat bracket. Do I have to unbolt the seats to get it out?

I've done it many times. You just have to unbolt the seat belt buckle bracket (3 triple square bolts) and move it out of the way. Porsche recommends you replace these with new bolts when you re-install it.

I would check both. After replacing my pumps I had this problem and it was a hose not letting the float go down with the fuel.

Finally got around to checking on this. Since I was cracking open both sides of the tank, got 2 new gaskets and new fuel filter.

Ben, you were pretty close. On the driver's side, hose from fuel filter to pump was looping over where the float comes up not allowing to go up all the way. I gave the hose a twist so it's natural inclination was going the other way and all is good now. Not really hard job at all, just time. I was about 2 hrs for the whole thing. Oh, the fuel filter has a hose that runs to the other side of the tank. Be sure to run a pull string to fish it back!
