Default A few questions/gripes about our new 2014 CD

A few questions about our new 2014 Platinum Diesel:

1) When you activate the windshield defroster, is it possible to route air anywhere else at the same time (floor for example like every other car known to man)?

2) Can you control the temperature of the windshield defroster? Even with the temp set to the lowest setting, the air temp that comes out of the windshield vents is super hot and over heats the car quickly.

3) Can you really not close the tailgate with the remote? How on earth is this possible?

4) When listening to music on your iphone through bluetooth, is there any way to change to the next song from the steering wheel? This seems like a big gap too.

comparing my 09:

1)This is the way it works on my 09. It appears the design is to defrost the window ASAP. I needed to use it tonight after the cold front came through, there was ice on my window from the previous rain. Worked quick too. When the ice was gone, turned it off, back to automatic mode.

2)I think this is the way it is designed, use it then loose it.

3) I cannot, I think it is a safety feature. I would like to close it on my wife....

4) When using the iPod cable and plug into my iPod, it does control the device from steering wheel. I don't know about Bluetooth connection. I do know on my 09, I cant do music through Bluetooth, just phone. I have to use AUX plug for music

1. I actually like the default front defrost setting. Besides its intended job, it helps heat the interior faster. Yes, it's a blast of airflow. But it's not an "in your face" flow. By default it increases heater temp to Max (without indicating so on the temp select digits) and flows upward only. Rest of car benefits by deflection off glass. When no longer needed or wanted, it's a simple matter of hitting the Auto button to return to memorized ACC settings.
2. When front Defrost mode is selected, the two Temp controls are disabled
3. Agreed, it's aggravating. On my Touareg, a second push of the keyfob or door control would effect an automatic close. Porsche should have incorporated that feature.
4. There's one steering wheel button that is programmable, so you should be able to remote the "next" and "previous" buttons (on the vertical console) via either the MFD or the PCM. Don't have my owner manual handy, but pretty sure it's in there.

Regarding #4, I Bluetooth my iPhone as a hands-free device. If I want to stream audio from it it, I use a USB cable and connect via the Aux port in the center console. That way I still have a fully charged phone battery when I exit the vehicle.

With the A/C controls, you can choose the "^" button to get air to blow on the windscreen. That allows you to choose one of the other buttons to direct air elsewhere too.

I'm with you on the remote not closing the tailgate, that bugs me too. It also bugs me that the button on the door doesn't open the tailgate, it just unlatches it.

Then you have a problem. The hatch should raise and beep a warning tone that it's doing so. Well, on the 958 Cayenne that is. Can't speak to the 955/957. There's also a sensor that will stop the upward travel if the hatch is in danger or striking an overhead obstruction before limit of travel is reached

This is the problem with paying real money on a NEW car. People get bent out of shape at the smallest things. I buy used now and just dont GAF about these kinds of small annoyances. Whenever I bought new cars I would obsess over these perceived ruiners of my perfect enjoyment.

Guess I'll make an inquiry with my local dealer then. Mine will unlatch and I hear a short warning but then nothing. :-(

I do not agree. When the car is locked, you can hold the hatch button on the remote 3-5 seconds, and the hatch will open. When finished, if you close the hatch, the car will lock and arm itself again.

Every car I've had for the last 20 years that had a designated defroster option does exactly what you describe (all air to the windscreen). Instead of using the defroster button you can instead use the manual controls to tell it where you want air to come out.

2) Can you control the temperature of the windshield defroster? Even with the temp set to the lowest setting, the air temp that comes out of the windshield vents is super hot and over heats the car quickly.
As far as I know it's the same temp as you have set on the dash. I haven't noticed mine being any warmer than the other vents, though it could be that the volume that is coming out is making it feel warmer.

3) Can you really not close the tailgate with the remote? How on earth is this possible?
What will irritate you more is that the T-Reg (Q7 too?) have that feature

Do you have the multi-function wheel? PCM or CDR+? I configured mine to use the multi-function button to advance to the next song and that works for my old 3G that I have plugged in via USB as well as my 4S when I use it via BT. I know there were PCM changes the month after mine was built, but I can't imagine that they'd remove functions.

I agree with Greg, you have a problem here. My son loves to hit that button when he is playing at "driving". It's a tri-fecta for him as it makes a noise, something physical happens, and it makes daddy jump out to close it again (given the aforementioned idiocy by Porsche for not letting us close it remotely). That's usually when his driving ends for the day...

That will happen if you don't have a fully charged battery. But at the same time, you should get a yellow message on the MFD about "battery saving mode"

I don't get any such warning message. Hard to believe I'd have trouble with a 2 year old factory battery. Anyway, it's a 2012 CPO so, I'm going to call the service department and have them look at it now that others are telling me it should open with the driver's door switch not just unlatch.

On my 14' GTS "with" the key on, I can open and shut the tailgate only with the drivers door button. Remote does not close it at all.

Great comment Endless. The engineers try to think how people will use the feature but they are human and on a budget. The CD is a great SUV - enjoy the torque.

Just for the record, I'm not bent out of shape at the items listed above...was more just curious if there was a way to remedy them. Loving the CD. It's a great car and my wife is super happy. That makes me happy.
