Only 20 lb/ft Torque more than a Turbo S and 200bhp less, plus a heavier engine. Add Cat bypasses to the Turbo S and gain back that 20lb/ft of Tq and gain another 10~20lb/ft of HP.
Your talking about fuel system changes as well as all of the involved electronics, a huge project.

It's extremely heavy. All porches have a custom wiring harness from the factory. You are better off upgrading the suspension on the touareg. But those things do weighs nearly 6k lbs. Lots of torque yes. But a low rev range and not THAT great of fuel economy. Considering it would cost many tens of thousands to put that engine in a cayenne you are better off just modding a cayenne turbo. Less weight and more power.

I think a more interesting project (assuming money no object) would be to put a Cayenne Turbo S motor in a Touareg. Of course, upgrading all the suspension bits as well. Would make for a real sleeper. Kind of like those VW Buses with the 993TT motors and suspensions.

..It is true that the advantage of the V10 engine, is that, when your are finished making french fries in the kitchen, instead of throwing away the oil, you can add it in the "fuel" tank !

My friend who's modding Q7s is putting together all the things needed for a swap like that since a couple of months now. It's going to be a Q7 with porsche 4.8 V8 TT if everything works out.

I originally went shopping for a V10 TDI Touring-egg. Very cool engine! Hits all the right buttons...V10....twin turbos.....Diesel!!! In a very nice ride too! The V10 TDI is pretty well optioned and looks pretty civil, but cool.
As much as I like "cool cars" I was honestly wanting to like the
Touareg more than the Cayenne. The Touareg "blends" better. I buy cars for "me", not to show them off to others.
As cool as the V10 TDI (not my only V10, or Diesel BTW) is to drive, it's really no comparison to a CTT!!! The handling alone is worth buying a CTT over a V10 TDI!
A really cool package would be a chipped and bigger turbo-ed V10 Tour-egg set up with CTT sway bars, control arms, TCase , etc!!

Do a search of the V12TDI Q7, not available in N.America and I think most went to the mideast. A lighter engine than the V10TDI thanks to Audi's LeMans TDI technology, 500bhp & 750lb/ft Tq.

By the way, a real Touareg W12 was in production some years ago, but, to my knowledge, it never made it to the US market. This is basically the same core engine as in the Bentley, and also Audi, or, in the Phaeton.
See : http://www.caranddriver.com/news/vol...ort-auto-shows
This is two basic VW V6 packed together. As these V6's are asymmetric V, i.e.: all exhaust in one side and all intake the other one, it was a kind of "easy task" to put them together, the final assembly having the exhaust outside of the "W", and the intake in the middle of it. Note that in the Bentley case, they even fitted turbos (on both side) !
The result is kind of a beautiful engine, extremely compact, quite light and with 12 cylinders !
I think it would be a nicer conversion (multi winters project !!) into a Cayenne than trying for a V10 TDI, and at the end, you will not have the finger smelling oil, ..each time you feed it up !
Photo of "the" engine :
The crank is quite interesting, too bad the picture is small !
Note the distribution, that is quite subtle, (same as for the basic V6 !!) for the W12, "only" four overhead cams, but very nicely set !
Or, see in details how to drive the 12 exhaust valves and the 12 intake valves with 2 cams ..on a V6 !
