Well, heard back from service manager, Porsche Canada, DECLINED! sorry no help for you!
Mechanic had scoped engine. found #5 not firing at all, sludge in chamber and oil pooling on piston. Scoring on up and down stroke. Nikasil lined ? yes. does it still cause problems? apparently. I assume it is a hush issue and if all service was done at the dealership, compensation would have been in order. Took back to place of purchase waiting to see what they can come up with. I have heard cylinder sleeve may be an option.

Classic.

We can help, but we don't just apply one sleeve for the affected cylinder, all 8 are sleeved and Nikisil plated. Just doing one cylinder is wasted effort as the other 7 still have deficiencies.

With the five-point one conversion cost less than the 30,000 he's been quoted to fix from the dealer?

Yes, even if the entire vehicle is shipped to us the tab would come in well below this figure with forged pistons and the other upgrades we have developed internally.

Well I hope I never have to face it, but if I do I know that is what I'll do.

This issue is all we have found wrong with the Cayenne.. They are my favorite modern Porsche engine.

Wow, this is the first I heard about the turbo engines have this problem.

Flat6, I thought the turbo engines were not affected by the cold? I remember you saying this below. Is something other than the cold causing these problems with the turbo engine?

Is that a TT engine or S in you pics Jake? Are they pressed in Sleeves?

As evidenced by this thread the issue does occur with the TT engines but is very, very rare. I can count how many failures we have heard of with the TT engine on one hand. That's not the case with the S. We receive at least one call even 10 days or so.

The reason why the issues are less evident with the TT engine is mainly because more clearance is built in at the factory with the TT engine than the S, because it's boosted and the pistons see more thermal effects than any NA engine would. This clearly indicates that they tightened the clearance up too much on the S engine.

The engine in the pic is an a engine that we have sleeves for Nickes, it's the only pic I had handy. The process is the same for the Turbo, we just latest clearances and change the piston design to reduce CR.

The sleeving process for these engines took years to perfect and has 11 different sub-processes that create it. The process that we perfected with LN pre-dates the Cayenne and even the water cooled Porsche 6.

my 2008 CTT is at the dealer now. they were fixing some other things. i told them to look into my oil consumption issues, 4 1/2 quarts in the last 900 miles. just got the call, 2 cylinder walls look scored and they are going to tear it down to verify.

57k miles. thank god for the CPO.

I see that you are in Ohio... We see tons of cylinder scoring in the engines from Ohio, I have three Ohio engines here now. Did you drive the car in the crazy cold that was experienced in the last couple of months?
