1.) I was goin' down this road and this deer jumped out and I had to steer fast.

That what you're looking for?

2.) Mebbe - how about the GROAN when my wheels are turned lock to lock when stopped on dry pavement? Porsche replaced the PS pump, and the steering rack (servotronic) - made no difference at all. Thank Dog for CPO.

I decided it was semi-normal. When I asked somewhere (mebbe here) it isn't uncommon. Mostly caused by the bushings compressing/decompressing as the big-*** (tech term) tires grab and then lose grip. Seems to do it a bit less with the Conti Extremes than it did with the Michelin Latitudes, and hardly at all with the Pirelli Scorpion snows that are on it now. It doesn't do it at all on wet pavement, in snow, or on pavement with sand or dirt on it. Like I said big-*** tires.

Take your choice of #1 or #2..

This is more like

start up everything normal
turn off for an hour or some period restart, steering heavy as if on NJ TP on friday PM
stop restart back to normal
can be bad on cold start also

My 2005 CTT steering groans if I've driven more than half an hour or so and I turn at around 20mph or so, both left or right turn.

Just got it so not sure how long its done that for and it seems ok on my daily commute which is 30 minutes. If driven longer it can happen but isn't constant.

I'd guess a pressure test to make sure the power steering pump is putting out the correct pressure.. then?

Is this a Servotronic? (Where some electronics related to driving speed come into the picture..)

It is servotronic, same basic system as BMW 745

Pressure test checks out.

Looking toward control unit / relay next

thanks Don

Will your Durametic show any faults? Or have any diagnostics?

I believe it is also possible for the rack to fail in this manner.. with a leaking internal seal. And it's not using any PS fluid (the very special Pensotin stuff..)?

no faults on duratetric or PIWIS, no leak down detected or any airlocks. PDCC replaced recently

Don't have servotronic on my pepper but what's the benefit and what is added to the rack? Better feel? Better response turning on fast or slow? Thanks. Mike

The low speed performance is awesome especially with these big tires

Without it it takes a lot of muscle , not like ML steering which failed me a long time ago with total fluid loss when it would not turn at all

Ok found the issue, there is a control unit / relay under the dash what a difference, must have been going for a while based on current feel

My dealer just replaced my PS pump. It was groaning loud, I thought it was an exhaust leak. Got louder up til 2500 rpm. I felt a little binding at low speed.
