2015 CD to have 258hp or 300hp?
If I knew the diesel from the Macan or the one with a new water cooled turbo from the Panamera was going into the '15 CD US version then it would make the '14 or '15 decision really easy. The discount on a '14 is pretty good that the small increase of the Macan diesel motor is pretty insignificant since a tuner box can easily beat that, so no need to wait there. On the other hand the Panamera diesel motor with 300hp and 479ft-lbs is a worth it. I've been looking at the EPA and ARB websites looking at certification results, but the 2015 diesels haven't showed up and when they do I'm not sure you can tell what specific motor was in the vehicle when tested since the displacement in both is the same at 2.967l.

CA ARB - http://www.arb.ca.gov/msprog/onroad/cert/cert.php#7

I believe it physically can't be the Pan's motor as I seem to recall having read that the dimensions are different (the Pan motor is longer and flatter).
I would expect a minor tune on the current motor vs a new motor (that will likely come in the next full model) so 258 sounds more realistic than 300 in my opinion.

The Panamera motor is the same block I think. Same displacement I know. Last model it had 250hp and similar torques as the CD. They just chaned the turbo in order to get 3 bars of boost instead of 2.5 bar. I guess that pressure needed extra cooling and required water cooling of it too. My thought is Porsche won't position the Macan S diesel and the Cayenne diesel with the same hp similar to the Boxster S and 911.
Dang it I'm not waiting for 2017 either.

Please!
Not much would have me return to the TDI even though its a phenomenal motor.
Yes, i know, comparing the TDI in the CD to my CTT - obviously a different league...i know.
Regardless, the 400+ lb feet of torque on the diesel is amazing on the low end.
I can only imagine what 382 HP and 627 torque would feel like - geared similar to the current CD.

Had a 2013 v6 Diesel Cayenne as a loaner today from Suburban Porsche In Farmington Hills Mi, it was great. No affiliation to PoFH however I get parts there and take my P!G for quick fixes there instead of the indy.
Anyways I am very surprised at how capable the CD are. Merging on the freeway was easy, like my 955 CS was, passing was good as well. It cruised at 95-100 (flow of traffic in the left lane...) with ease all while averaging 35mpg!! I am very happy with it. I was never a fan of the idea, I like diesels and what they can do...but I never thought I would like them in a Porsche car, boy was I wrong. It isn't a CTT that is for sure, but for a v6 with the mileage it offers is just stupendous. .
Yes I know that review was off topic, but with 627lb ft and 382hp, a tune and some less restrictive exhaust that may be the next Cayenne I buy.

I drove the first CD. I want one but would like to try the CDS. Compared to CS, what do you give up? Extra weight? Quickness? Handling? Do they feel slow? Fuel cost per mile seems pretty close between them.

I would dump my CTTS in a heartbeat for the 4.2TDI. I drove a Audi A8 a few years ago while in Europe with the 4.2 TDI, what a beast. Engine in the Audi was laid out the same as a CTT. Twin Turbo, twin front fender mounted intercoolers. I think it was rated at 600lb-ft of TQ and my friend was taking it to MTM in Germany for a software flash which was suppose to bump it to 685lb-ft and another 20bhp, and that was Stage 1.

the 4.2 tdi is very good, but it's not CTT engine good. I did my share of miles in a Q7 4.2tdi with a custom tune and custom exhaust (I don't recall the exact figures, but torque was over 1000nm = 737lb-ft). regular driving is perfect, but if you want to drive quick, pass other cars, etc. you come to realize that it's still diesel sluggish. the power and torque is there but the powerband is really narrow. if you want, I can take my friend and do a comparison with a CTT head to head.
driving is very different in the US so I can imagine a lot of people liking it.
the only diesel I REALLY like is the V12 6.0l in a Q7. now that's something. it doesn't matter what gear it's in, it just pulls like crazy. with a custom tune, it's pretty easy to go over 1400nm / 1030lb-ft. now give me a solid point in the galaxy and I'll turn the earth I'm actually on a lookout for one now, will see if anything I like comes around.

Before they were released I was all up on the idea, but looking at the power curve numbers Porsche put out I'm not as enamored with it anymore. It certainly has more power than the base diesel, but it's power bands were shorter.
For normal driving it probably doesn't make too much of a difference (though if you just floor it in a passing maneuver you'll probably fall off your torque too soon), but when I took my CD AutoX-ing keeping in the torque band was my biggest challenge and knocking a few hundred RPM off that would make it more annoying.
Much like the base diesel, however, I'm sure a semi-decent tune could stretch that curve out some more.

FWIW - based upon the current BlueSpark website - this Gen2 box is mapped to increase my 3.0 liter V6 turbo diesel to 305 hp and 515 lb-ft torque. If I recall, I had my Gen1 box set to produce about 288/496
