Default Wiper Arm None Contact Patch - Fix Anyone?

Hi all

My passenger side (RHD UK car) wiper arm doesn't have any contact with the glass in the center when in the rest position and as a result doesn't wipe about 12" of the bottom of the glass, I've tried lubrication at the pivot point on the arm but that made no difference.

Other than replacing the linkage does anyone have a fix for this please?

Car is a 2005 CTT.

Thanks

Carl

Not that I know how to do this yet, because I never changed my wipers yet, but are we talking about factory wipers and are they installed correctly?

Hi, yes factory wipers and connected properly.

Ive read an article on renntech about this problem but dont know how to fix it. I dont want to have to replace the linkage but it seems as if the tension in the arm isnt strong enough to press the centre of the wiper onto the glass when its in the rest position?

Historically, the first thing I do before replacing anything - is to simply swap sides. I remove both replaceable wipers from their arms. Then I put what was the right one on the left arm, and what was the left one on the right arm. If it works, great. If the problem follows, get new wipers. If the problem stays on the same side, get a new arm.

I agree with Greg. Try swapping sides with your wiper blades. If the problem persists, chances are likely that the arm is the culprit.

Porsche TSB W603-9 covers an issue with faulty wiper arms on early 2006 US/CDN models. This may or may not affect your '05 ROW RHD however, it's definitely worth looking into.

Had the same issue with my drivers side wiper missing the middle of the wipe, tried lubrication swapping and new blades. In the end i replaced the blades with Michelin Stealth's one of the only blades that actually fit the earlier models, worked like a charm ever since. They are the suspension type ones rather than the beam type, so they seem to connect better with the screen.

Just something to consider is you can't get the tension right in the arm.

This has been an issue since day 1. The angle of attack caused by arm is supposed to be the cause, at one point dealers had a tool to adjust, I just used pliers

Just tried swapping the blades but no difference, mudman2 can you tell me more about the adjustment you made to the arm with pliers please?

Ive read that the arm attachment mechanism (dont know how else to describe it) can be damaged / break and mine has had a replacement screen prior to my ownership so perhaps this is worth considering but my last one did this and had original glass so more than likely a design flaw but do not want to pay the dealer a couple of hundred quid to fix this if possible?

I wrapped the center of the blade with my leather glove then gripped with large pliers

Tried twisting slightly one way and try it, if it gets worse go the other way, does not take much

I then make sure I have Rainx on the screen and as an additive

I ended up bending the blade itself until I got the best contact. Trial and error method.

mtnrat, do you mean putting a pre camber in the wiper blade to it doesnt raise off the glass as much?

I tried pre camber for the whole blade and it would miss in the middle. I finally just bent more or less camber in short little sections till I got the best contact. Not perfect, but is pretty good.

Did having full contact when in the parked position affect the wipe in the fully extended position in an adverse way?
