2nd gear start - 05' CTT
Hi all I just recently picked up a 05' CTT and noticed it always takes off in 2nd gear after stopping at stop signs/lights etc while driving. Is that normal behavior?
Obviously I can manually shift it into 1st if needed but just noticed it usually takes off in 2nd.
Is there a way to activate a 'sport' mode that has more aggressive shift points and uses 1st gear (without having to manually shift)? Or is the sport button only on the newer CTTs?

I have a Stick in my Cayenne, and I start in 2nd, first is really low.
I am not absolutely sure, but I believe Porsche is using similar transmission technology Mercedes uses. I know its a Porsche Triptronic, or whatever they call it, but it was normal in standard model Mercedes to have this as a feature, to start from second if not fully stopped of stopped for a short period of time.
This could be normal, or a sign of trouble? I myself toy with the cable adjustment and the shift pressure setting on my 1992 300CE W124, I am not sure if it is that easy on a Porsche.

It will start in 1st gear, and it will hold the gears longer before upshifting. It will also be reluctant to go into 6th gear, even at highway speed. Obviously it will turn off the electronic stability control, so you should keep that in mind when turning it off.

In my opinion the Cayenne PSM will only intervene if you are making a real mess of things; generally no reason to turn it off.
If driven sportily the Cayenne (CTT) will adapt throttle, suspension and transmission maps to suit the driving style. Switching the PSM off does this without having to make an effort.

Thanks for the info here. I turned off the PSM and that definitely is equivalent to the sport button in other cars.....exactly what I was looking for. Much more aggressive shift points with PSM off and even used first gear during stops as well. Thanks!

This has been discussed before. The base V6 (with Tiptronic) and the Diesel start out in 1st by default. "Less horsepower, same mass" was the reason given. V8 models use 2nd gear as default, unless/until over-ridden by an aggressive driver.
