Default Service in 1500 miles

I am starting to get this message. I have been reading and am 90% about purchasing DuraMetric to read codes and reset.

My question is, how do I know what service my car is looking for? is this just a standard Oil change message, or is the car looking for something more. I saw a video on YouTube that there were three levels of maintenance messages, Large, Small, and Oil Change.

P.S. I like to work on my own cars too...

Intermediate maintenance is done at 20k and every 40k after that
Major maintenance is done at 40k and every 40k after that
In other words, they alternate every 20k; intermediate, major, intermediate, major, etc
Oil change interval depends upon which engine you have. Sometimes the OCI is concurrent with an intermediate or a major.
You might find it interesting to know that - besides on YouTube - this information is also in the owner manuals that came with your car.

I don't know what his car is, but if its a 957 V8 they are 15k and 30K.

whats your mileage? these cars dont need a lot, other than fluids/filters and plugs at 40k (NA engines). the other stuff is "inspect this or that."

Wink

I have the 2009 957 GTS V8. It currently have 47K on it. The warning will run out around 48K

Thanks All. I understood the car has these different maintenance periods, but it appears the car is not telling me which period I am up against and it isn't matching any of the intervals mentioned

I also understand it is just a bug to get us all into the dealer, but as a newbie, I just want to follow up on anything that is very important as part of any of the different periods. I just purchased the car and want to get her under control if necessary. I know I already need some brakes and tires soon. Everything else is working.

The reset feature on the Durametric appears to reset all of them at the same time? I don't know cause I don't own it yet, but I will be ordering the cable soon as it appears this is a basic requirement for a Porsche Owner that is a member of Rennlist and owns a P!G

Hmmm. Greg, my 08 TT turned 40k and I got no maintenance needed warning light or whatever the OP has seen. It was CPO'd at 31k miles. Could the CPO treatment have made the 40k service unneeded?

2008 got 12k mile service intervals, all other years were 20k. I think by 2009, Porsche had decided that the 12k mile thing was too confusing.

Don't forget that your service light is also triggered by time. If it's been two years since your last service, the message will show up, regardless of mileage.

if you dont know the service history, then do all the "normal" stuff, I'd also check the plugs.

I remain a bit at sea. My car was CPO'd at 31k miles. So is my service due at 43k or did that CPO do nothing with service and the P.O. had it done at 36k meaning I am due at 48k?

I am unclear if the CPO cert does a service of if it's only an inspection.

The dealer you bought it from should be able to tell you what they did to it at CPO.

This is the Porsche service history I just got for an '08 Turbo I'm looking at:

4/2/2013 – Oil change @ 62000 miles

4/20/2013 – Major service (oil change, air filter, pollen, spark plugs, brake fluid) @ 52500 miles

8/26/2011 – Oil change@ 43600 miles

12/16/2010 – Oil change @ 38000 miles

3/5/2010 - Major service (oil change, air filter, pollen, spark plugs, brake fluid) @ 31800 miles

7/29/2009 – Oil change @ 23000 miles

9/2/2008 – Oil change @ 10600 miles

OK prior to 2008 over here we followed the same intervals as the US but using kilometres rather than miles due to severe environmental conditions. I assumed that this carried on with the 957s but seemingly not.

This is our 2008+ service schedule.

2009 US oil changes went to 10K, so you could be on a 50K oil change.

okay, thanks all. Sounds like there is no way to tell what level of Service the car wants you to perform. I thought it was more detailed. It also sounds like there is no way to choose what level of service is being reset bu the Durametric.

I have no contact with that dealer (Porsche of Beverly Hills). P.O. bought the car from the dealer and then soon after, I got it. I find your car's oil change history a bit uneven.
