Default 04 CS - what's this button (?) in the middle of the dash?

I'm trying to solve an irritating dash rattle problem and was trying to remove this middle piece in the center of the dash by the windshield. It looks like it has a black button that can be pushed down. But when I push it down, it gets stuck until I pry it back up. And the center piece still doesn't come off. Any ideas? Thanks.

Here is what Porsche says it does:

Solar intensity is detected by two photo diodes in the
stereo solar sensor. The solar sensor is able to measure
the sun’s intensity separately from the left and right sides.
The system reacts to changes in solar intensity after time
delays of typically 50 seconds with increasing solar
intensity and 200 seconds with decreasing solar intensity.
This prevents unnecessary adjustments by the automatic
A/C system in response to transient conditions.
The sensor is supplied a 5.0 Volt reference voltage. An
increase in sensed solar radiation causes the Climate
Control Unit to command an increase in blower speed. The
solar sensor is located on the top of the dash in the
center.

Thanks for the info. I had a hec of a time trying to google it and there was nothing in the owners manual that I could find. Hopefully, I didn't damage it trying to press it down.

I doubt you did any damage at all.

Oops. I pressed mine down a while ago. So how did you get it back up?

Being in an irritated mood I used a flat head screw driver. Surprisingly, I don't think it got scratched.

That's weird, that is the place where the parking sensors go, since you don't have that option it looks like they just used a block off plate.
