Default cabin AC condensation problem

i have cleaned out
1) cowl drain points... got several litters of water
2) a/c drain pipe( next to the cabin air filter) .. no issues there
3) rear arch drain pipes..no issues there.

the carpets and all foot wells and cargo tyre bay is all dry...

but every time i use the AC for 5 + mins and then switch it off the car windows get heavy condensation that can take 30mins to clear , and will re condense if left over night.

what am i missing :bang head:

thanks

Does it smell like coolant? Could be a pinhole leak in the heater core or its associated coolant circuit.

Rocker panel drains? Did you follow the AC drain out? Is there a gap when it exits the cabin?

thanks for the replies:
the AC is blowing cold and also when used de-condenses the cabin in seconds.
i presume this means that where is no leak/de-pressurisition in the system?

there is no stale or coolant smell . the car still smells of new leather.

the entry of the AC drain ( next to the air cabin filter) was blown trough and was clear. the grommet around the exit point(firewall) was flush fitting and no sign of damp/wetness.

what/where are the rocker panel drains? how do i check them
thanks

The fall season usually brings higher than normal outdoor humidity levels coupled with lower temps. Something as simple as two occupants (freshly showered) who have just entered the cabin can also elevate the humidity levels which can create condensation on the glass. The importance of using 100% outdoor air over recirculated air is vital to ensure cabin dehumidification.

By switching off the A/C, I assume that you are referring to the ECON button?

Provided that your carpets are dry and there is no standing water in the cabin, the first thing that I would verify would be if the recirculation button is disengaged. By engaging the recirc/auto recirc feature, you are essentially recirculating the humid cabin air instead of replacing it.

thanks for the reply..
yeap it happens when the ECON button is on after the AC has been running.

i did not think about the recirc button.
it is definitely is not switched on.

BUT there is a ticking from one of the vents. like if it is stuck did not really take to much notice ..it could be a stuck recirc flap.

oh man ..be a real headache to find the culprit flap.

If it happens when the Decon button is on but when in Auto it De-humidifies the air as normal it means your fresh-air flap is not opening. It could be jammed but more likely it is the fresh air flap motor. I had the same problem. It is about the only HVAC motor that is easy to replace thankfully. It is down by the Pollen filter in the passenger footwell. Part # is 95562491501 (Auto climate control) or 95562491001 (manual climate control) depending on your model which you don't list. If you pull the lower cover off the footwell you will see the little motor up by the blower motor. With power on just cycle the the HVAC from Econ to Auto and see if it moves. If it doesn't then it's the culprit. They are a fairly common failure.

great info re . re-circ flap
never give it a second thought in tring to diagnose this problem.
thankfully its working fine..
so back to the drawing board.

could there be water/condensate collecting somewhere within the HVAC plumbing when the AC is working that is not being drained out?

thanks again

You mentioned that the carpets are dry. Have you felt behind the carpet padding itself to verify this or did you simply pat the carpet from the top? When the sunroof drains block, water does have a tendency to accumulate underneath the padding.

One other item to check would be the A/C evaporator drain pan itself. If the drain spigot is blocked, the pan may be filled with condensate (water). Unplug the drain line directly at the pan and poke a toothpick or other non-metallic object upwards to dislodge any foreign item that may be blocking the opening.

Remove the footwell upper cover as you normally would when accessing the pollen air filter. The drain spigot is located at the bottom right of the pan (see attached image with blue circle).

thanks for that ..
found it and cleaned it by blowing hard down the rubber tube ..seems to be all clear.
is that the same item as the AC drain pipe?
thanks again

I had the same problem - Foam issue with the air conditioner…dealership was charging $3k to fix…found Vision Vents on the internet…fixed it for $300 …hope this helps
