On your original question, I would go for the slightly used turbo. There is no comparison in my book. I use mine for towing and even to the odd construction job I take on out of boredom. I get pretty funny looks when I go pick up the odd bag of tile set or few bundles of shingles. LOL. Building up the FZJ? You must also be on mud.

One more thing...when you test drive a CTT, turn PSM off!

On 958's there is also the "sport" button which is similar to turning off PSM on 955's.

Okay, a kick in the family jewels. The dealer offers on the LX570 are well below my aticipated numbers (even being a realist).

So… What are the thoughts on a lower mile first generation turbo vs. second generation S?

Please note that I am accustomed to the minimalist options of the 993 / FZJ80 / DS21 and many others, but I do demand a comfortable seat :-)

I hate weighing financial thoughts into the equation, but that is my position. I only buy toys with cash / trades and that limits my options.

Cheers

They are great. And more utilitarian with a dedicated low range. The rear glass hatch lifts up on the 955/957 also and not on 958. The 957 has a slightly different front clip and rear tails along with direct injection and the option to have PDCC. I think a 08-09 turbo is a really good buy.

955 turbo $17-26k
955 turbo s $25-35k.
957 turbo $35-55k.

Honestly the first generation(s) 955/957 are brilliant vehicles. The 958 is more car like and builds on the concept and is lighter and a bit more refined. If you never drove a 958 you would not miss anything. I also think the lack of low range makes the 958 a but more of a soft roader.

I disagree. I looked at a CPO 957 last year when I ordered my CD before I had done more than look at pictures of the 958. It was a good specimen, but the interior felt old and dated and not in a simplistic utilitarian way like a 996.1 or older 911.

I do agree, however, that the older models were more utility than the 958 (more upper area in the luggage area, flat fold seats, opening hatch window, better off road drive train options).

And thats why you bought a new car. But I LOVE the interior of my 955 in palm green with full leather and olive. I do hate the grey and the beige looks a little low rent somehow. I think it really depends on your initial expectations. I spent $18k on a car with a unique interior in mint condition. I think color and trim combos can make a big difference in how it looks. Nobody will argue that the 958's dont have a damn nice interior.. but if I had to chose a nice 957 for $40k or a 958 for $90. The interior does not feel $50k nicer. Bang for buck the first gens are impossible to beat.

We are not comparing apples to apples. If you have the loot by all means.. enjoy the new model.

Great info! The prices on the 957 turbo are fantastic, even with lower miles. A sub 30k mile example below $43k looks great.

It would be a bonus to find a one owner, no stories girl on Rennlist :-)

I also love the interior of my 957 its nicely understated while I find the 958 interior a bit brash and tacky.

...and they are still pretty quick!

All right, let me be the voice of reason around here ( ) & suggest that you go with that 958 CTT mentioned in your OP. And as far as interiors go, I vote this one:

I did say "voice of reason" but certainly not of "reading comprehension"

957 CTT then!
