I am looking to add a 958 to my garage. The question is should I go with a brand spanking new well appointed S or a dirty used '12 Turbo with 12k miles at roughly the same price. Do I need the extra hp? Well… no, but then again more hp and torque are great fun and never hurt when towing.

I drove a '14 S this weekend and was blown away by the comfort. Above all else, my wife loved the Cayenne over the lush MB GL63 that we drove immediately after.

Not much off-road duties for the PIG as she will haul my in progress retro 25' AirStream project and serve as general ranch ***** (yes, I live on a ranch and use the back hatch for more than groceries). I save the off road jobs for my always in progress FZJ80 and Polaris MV700 as they will likely encounter a generally friendly longhorn / donkey / horse / or llama.

So, let the flogging begin…

Cheers
I have a Cayenne, not a pig.

Everybody will give you as an answer their choice due to two factors.

1. Fear of cognitive dissonance.

2. We who own them faced the same decision and made our choice which is what we'll say we recommend to you because we recommended that to ourselves. Loop back to #1 too.

In my case, I figured if I was buying a Porsche SUV, why not emphasize the Porsche so I got the CTT. If I was willing to ride around in a lesser version, I may as well go all the way and buy an Audi or a Subaru or maybe Lexus.

To me the point of the Cayenne is luxury and performance. An S or a GTS may have the luxo boat aspect covered, but the performance demands the TT.

The satisfaction I get from the CTT is such that I doubt I could get it from the lesser models. Your personality may be different, though.

It changes the throttle response and makes the nanny less aggressive than default.

On a 2008+ there is also the sport button which accomplishes the same thing as turning off PSM on a 955.

With PSM engaged, a CTT will normally start off in 2nd gear and be rather sluggish off the line. With PSM off, it starts off in 1st gear. I'm not saying one should leave it off normally; but in a first time Cayenne Turbo test drive, PSM can really give one the wrong impression.

The CTT is quick but do not ever underestimate the GTS or you'll be left behind on the twisties.

I took everyones advise and drove the CTT today.

What a beast! The girl also has a Fabspeed Performance Package installed that includes Maxflo Mufflers with Tips, and Secondary Catbypass Pipes.

The drive was fantastic and the Fabspeed was music to my ears. The adaptive sport seats were just what my back needed.

Long story short, I bought a 2012 CTT with 12k miles.

A few pics… I appreciate everyone's valuable input!

Yeah that is the problem with these. Once you drive it, it's hard to consider anything else

Congrats. Have fun and drive it like you stole it!

Thanks. You all were so right about the Turbo… I had no idea how much I would love the Cayenne.

They gave a great trade-in evaluation for my 2011 LX570 with 70k miles. Plus someone else ate about $40k in depreciation on the Turbo.

I am looking forward to testing the towing characteristics.
