CD changer in my old '04 Cayenne S failed back in 2008; I replaced it with a used one. CD changer in my current '04 Turbo failed this year; replaced by dealer under CPO warranty. You might want to consider aftermarket/upgrade.

Try to pull out the changer and then unplug it for a second and then plug it back in to see if it works. If it does work, when you put it back in, only attach the attachment scres on the right side of the changer and that will make it easier to remove the next time it happens. Mine stops every six months or so and this seems to work, not sure why.
You can also try to do a hard reset on PCM by holding the 148 until it resets, maybe this will work. Good luck.

I vaguely seem to remember a fuse in the back of the CD changer itself - but that's from memory and I could be confusing it with a BMW changer.. Felling around behind it with a mirror might (or might not) be productive.

If it can't be revived and you're keeping the 955 for a while, I'd say replace the PCM and changer with a current Pioneer or Kenwood head and get USB/SD storage, BT, sat radio, new maps, etc . That's what I'm doing when I find a reliable installer out here in the boonies. PCM is really ancient in terms of media, GPS, etc. Or you can buy a used changer from a junkyard. Audi used the same changer for years (my '01 had one) but I don't know if they're wiring-compatible w/PCM.

I don't plan on replacing my changer if it is indeed toast, I'd definitely do a complete PCM upgrade to an Alpine, as I have had great luck with them in the past...But that would be down the road, as I'd rather get a few cosmetic goodies first.

The fuse I replaced is in the compartment you access by opening the front passenger's door and pulling off a panel. Read this thread, and esp. my last post on page 2:
