My son recently bought a 20' enclosed trailer for his race car and towed it from Vancouver to Ottawa without difficulty. He used short, stick-on extensions to the Cayenne S's mirrors. When it came time for me to back the rig up, however, I discovered I couldn't see. The mirrors, even with extensions, are nowhere nearly wide enough to see the back corners of the 8 1/2' wide trailer. If you could mount a Ford 250's extendible mirrors on a Cayenne's doors, you'd have quite a towing package. Without that, I'd advise an open trailer.
For those hauling cars, what type of speeds are you cruising at on the freeways?
I used to pull my old race car some with a Mountaineer years ago and it had zero issues pulling/stopping but had to really watch cruising speeds or trailer would get a little unstable and was awfully easy to accidentally speed up. I do not remember the speed itself, I think it was maybe 70 mph.
I am used to hauling cars with F250s but seeing as the last F250 someone decided to steal I was debating if I should look into having hitch added to my 2015 Cayenne S for the rare times I may need to haul my show car somewhere. I think trailer and car is in the 5000 lb range. Have not even looked to see how easy or hard it would be to get hitch added, I know on the ML we had it was too complicated to make it worth adding a hitch.
Longest haul for me, was 12 hours from Balt out to Indiana, and cruised the entire way at 70 mph (wife would yell at me when I crept up to 80). Heavy Steel Trailer + 964T = ~ 5,000 lbs.
It towed like a DREAM. But I have a 2012 CTT with PDCC & PTV, with factory Tow hitch package.
Personally I think the PDCC helped my stabilization tremendously.
I was not using a Stabil-i-zer sway bar on my tongue.
I WAS using a "Weigh-Safe" tongue weight hitch, which allowed me to balance my rig perfectly.
I will have to do some searching to see how feasible it is to add a hitch to mine since it was built without one. I know on the ML diesel we got rid of it was very costly with more a risk of problems than not, so decided was just not worth it.
Two points.... I towed a 3,600 pound boat and trailer with my 2014 Cayenne diesel for about 300 miles and I hardly noticed it was behind me. No problems at all going 70-75 mph.
I have the factory hitch option. The dealer told me it was about $1,800 to ad the trailer hitch and the option was $650 as I recall.

I wonder. For Cayenne's that already have the OEM Factory back-up-camera option,... anyone know of a product that could extend that setup, and allow for placement of an additional camera attached on the back of a big enclosed trailer?
Maybe something that could be hooked directly into the Cayenne's video cabling at the rear?
If not, I may have just thought of Porsche's next evolution product feature set for the factory tow hitch option.... "Wireless extendable Camera option".

But seriously, the more I think about my comment on PDCC helping stabilization while towing,... I think that it cannot be true. The only thing it might reduce would be a little bit of "lift" on the tongue caused by tow-vehicle body roll during cornering.
And since a slight amount of lift in the tongue happens all the time while towing, I think that the stabilization in the Cayenne must just be causing the illusion to me as the driver, that it is helping with trailer stabilization.
So I really think if I was serious about increasing my trailer stabilization, I would add one of those tri-way setups like the "stabil-i-zer" that attaches a little further in on both sides of the trailer frame. Slides fore & aft depending on trailer sway.
Something like that.
So I guess I was just waiting for someone else to call BS on my claim. Lol.
