Default '09 GTS 6-speed: anything to look out for on this purchase?

Wife & I are switching our M-series BMW to a 1st gen 6-speed GTS: are there any odd things we need to look out for on these Cayenne's??

Thanks for your input!

Mark

Have it checked by your local Porsche dealer. They can put the PIWIS on it and provide data on currency of firmware on all your various control modules in the car. They can also pull any dealer service history to determine if any recall campaigns are outstanding.

I have an '08 GTS with a 6-speed and LOVE it!

Look out for small children and animals as you tear through the streets.

There is a black/black 09 CGTS 6-speed with PDCC and sport rims at Porsche of Arlington here in VA that I've seen. It's nice, check out their website.

I drove the black/black '09 at Arlington a few weeks ago. It was a nice car. They have lowered the price now in the $46k range. I was looking for a CPO and this didn't have one. It does have Escort hidden radar.

I think we will look for a new CD instead.

I just picked up an 08 GTS 6-speed. While I am very happy with it, I would suggest that you do test drive both Auto and Manual transmissions if you have the opportunity. Other than being an automatic, theres nothing wrong with the auto GTS.
The manual however, is a little strange. Maybe I was expecting a little too much, but I had hoped the shifter would be similar to the one in my S2000. The reality is that its much closer to the '84 F250 that I grew up with. The throws between gears are long, and to my mind there is too much wasted movement.

Dont get me wrong, I wouldn't give up the stick shift, but I am a little disappointed with how it feels.

I almost bought an 08 GTS 6-speed. The gear shift felt notchy to me compared to other contemporary Porsches. It felt like an 80s stock VW or 911. Also, my elbow kept hitting the right seat bolster whenever I shifted from 1st to 2nd and 3rd to 4th. I went with a Tip Cayenne.

Manual GTS is a phenominal vehicle and I could not be happier. If you find one with PDCC, all the better as it makes a difference. However I would not wait 6 months to find one with PDCC, unless you have that much time to wait.

If you have not had a Cayenne before, you'll be amazed at the versatility - heel and toeing while bombing twisties and switch backs, and then if you hit a trail for a hike, ground clearance and granny gears as needed.

Ok, got a PPI and purchased the vehicle on Monday. I gotta say...

I don't like it all. I REALLY wish I had driven one before I purchased it. Wife loves it, but I specifically dont like:

-cheap interior: NO leather. Ford-ish dash, Alcatera everywhere?? For $90k, why not suede everywhere or stitched leather? Porsche really F'd up on this.
-Gearing for the 6-speed: really Porsche?? Really? It has the gears of a Honda civic...always shifting to keep it out of the higher rev band, otherwise you're averaging a very low MPG. The one time I drove it I started using only 3 speeds: 2nd, 4th, and 6th, where 2nd is about right for a proper 1st gear and 6th is not even an over-drive.

I can't wait to sell this thing...wife loves it so it wont be an easy struggle. I refuse to drive it, just pisses me off that we didn't critique one more carefully before buying. Every time I look at the doors and dash I think I'm in a cheap Ford.

Yes, yes, I know I'm on a Cayenne forum so I'm sure to get some backlash...just NOT what I expected from Porsche and I've owned 24 of them.

My X5: better steering, more planted feel with the much wider tires front/rear, wonderful leather and leather smell, nice BMW attention to detail build. I'd much rather keep that.

There were many improvements made in the current Cayenne.
I wanted a 6-speed manual as well.
I test drove an '09 GTS and a '13 Base.
While I liked the power of the V8 in the GTS, the newer Cayenne is much more refined imho.
I ordered my 6-speed manual '14 and should get delivery in Oct ... can't wait.
