FWIW, I'm a 65k miles now. Might be the second time yours is being replaced. Doubt it, but possible.

I placed the order yesterday from VertexAuto:

Porsche Cayenne Upgraded Drive Shaft - Rebuilt - $389
Cayenne Drive Shaft Clamping Bearing Support Mount - $489

The guy at Vertex was 100% honest and said I most likely only need the bearing support mount, but I figured for $389, no reason not to do both. They installed the new bearing support on the shaft so it will save my mechanic some time and all he has to do is replace the shaft. Also ordered the air filters and cabin filters. I went with OEM vs K&N as I haven't decided if I'm going to upgrade the rest of the truck and K&N is usually included in all those kits anyway.

Vertex shipped the shaft yesterday (talk about fast!) and it will be here on Thursday.

I'll update when it's installed - crossing fingers that it's the issue.

Thanks,
Erik

All you needed was the rebuilt shaft... But at least now the problem should never return. Keeping the truck for 200k miles?

Will try. I'm actually going to look for another one - can't let the wife have all the fun, I want one too!

Thanks,
Erik

Yea, I was curious about the 2 parts, I thought the bearing/donut/bracket was already installed on the replacement driveshafts? I was trying to understand why the 2 parts proposed (haven't yet browsed Vertex's site for detail).

Maybe we should be taking this over to one of the Cardian shaft threads.....

You either buy a rebuilt shaft (which supposedly has a 3rd party bushing less likely to fail), an oem shaft, or buy the plastic donut retrofit kit and mod your existing support bracket.

Penske says they put a ton of time into my car diagnosing and that it is NOT the doughnut. They claim the vibration I'm getting, at exactly the right RPM and condition to indicate the doughnut issue, is in fact my aftermarket exhaust vibrating against the chassis. I've had that exhaust for 25,000 miles and it's only been doing it for the last 1000. Not satisfied with the answer obviously. Need a second opinion.

I can believe it. My service adviser came on the test drive yesterday morning and was convinced it was that problem in a very early stage of failure. I simply don't know what it is at this point. I just don't see why it would be an exhaust pipe that had been there for 24,000 trouble free miles before starting to make noise. Or maybe it's loosening and once Penske diagnosed, perhaps the didn't bother to tighten everything up, on my dime of course. Need to ask that. I like these guys, think very highly of our dealership in Tysons. I don't like unsolved problems.

Here is the one I bought on ebay:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/130824149662...84.m1497.l2649

$179 - well worth it. Took me from 4/2005 to 8/2007. Just stick the new disc in and it upgrades the maps - only took a few minutes.

Erik
