Just picked up my CTT last week. Really been enjoying it.

Today I filled up, got in and turned the key over and it started to sputter and the tach bounced up and down just south of 1k before it cut out. Tried it again, same result. A third time it sputtered and finally kept running albeit rough for about 30 seconds. I limped it out of the fuel stall and then it started running normal.

Drove it home with no issues. Started it in the driveway after I got home, no problems.

It might be unrelated, but I also noticed yesterday that the fan kicked in after I came home and shut it off. It ran then shut off. Then ran again and shut off. Then again, etc etc. I finally got in , started it up and shut it down and it stopped. Now today I haven't heard the fan kick in at all after I've been driving.

Also, no fault light came on during the above incident at the gas station. My first thought was something to do with the fuel pump?

Any ideas?

Fuel pumps are a common issue for Cayennes. Your CTT has two fuel pumps. Your symptoms sound similar to mine when my primary fuel pump was failing.

I had that problem, every time I went to fuel up it wouldn't start. My problem turned out to be the check valve.

When you did fuel up, did it start right away or you had to give is some gas? I would try to fuel up again and see if it happens.

It could also be the fuel pump like Dennis said but just thought I would share this since it happened to me last summer.

I did give the pedal a little push before it started. SO it could be the check valve?

+1 on the check valve especially if it happens right after fueling.

To confirm you can try removing the refuelling cap, refit it and try starting.

Thanks guys. This is where I show my ignorance. Where is the check valve and what does it do? Is it something I can replace or is it a dealer required fix?

Dennis, did you do the job yourself?

If so how was it compared to doing coolant pipes? easier?

My dealer did the fuel pump and the pipes, so unfortunately I can't give you a comparison. I thought it was pretty easy - drop the Cayenne off at the dealer, then pick it up the next day!

Both the fuel pumps were replace on the '05 CTT I'm driving/buying at around 95k miles, the receipt is in the glove box, IIRC the Dealer charged $1,600.

I see the pumps listed on Pelican for approx $390 each.

The symptom listed on the work order was engine sputtering, no power.

Not to go beyond the original diagnosis, but did you put in more gas after the "auto-stop" of the gas nozzle kicked in?

Sometimes an overfill of a fuel tank can cause issues on restart.
