Default Adding Backup Camera

I have an 05 CTT.. Has anyone successfully added a rear view camera to their car? I have had it on all my cars and now spoiled.

VIP: I added one six years ago to a 2004, but it doesn't have the super-imposed red-yellow-green rectangles that new ones do. The camera is in a license plate frame. Gives a decent picture, but I really like the rectangular warnings.

I'm interested in doing this too.

600RR: Is the viewer on the 7 inch TFT or on your mirror? Any glitches?

I did a wireless one.. from Peak. Mounted the monitor in the useless sunglass holder. Wired the camera/transmitter to the back up lights, wired the monitor to a switched fuse in the right side fusebox. Works fine. Marginally useful (bigger screen would be nice, as would the warning hashes on the screen.)

It is a very time consuming process. I have a 2008 cayenne S with stock nav. I installed a backup camera to work with the stock navigation system. The whole procedure took me about 12 hours. (It only took me 3 hours to install a backup camera on a 2011 BMW 535i the other day). The hardest part was running the wires from the trunk to the liftgate. If you like to go that route then what you need to buy is the backup camera Interface from Nav-Tv and a back up camera.

vnta7:
So the video signal goes straight from the camera to the PCM head unit? If so then all the module is doing is talking to the CAN bus to know it is in reverse and power up the camera? That is the same function that the original stock "backup camera module" does according to the schematics (can connection, camera power, video does not go to that module).
I say this because the stock "backup camera module" is ~$180 and navtv is $649....

I think Mefis is correct. To get the Video you just need to plug it in but you may need to get your PCM coded for the rear back-up camera, anyone know? I mentioned in another post that I have the OEM rear backup camera but when I had to install a new PCM the camera quit working until I went to the dealer and had them recode the PCM for the rear backup camera. The OEM rear camera gets it's power from the camera module on the inside of the rear hatch which powers the camera and sends power to the camera extension motor to extend it, with power off the module retracts. The OEM camera module/relay supplies about 6.5v to the camera, most aftermarket cameras that I found require at least 9~12v. I did purchase 3 Ebay cameras after mine failed and found 1 out of the 3 that worked with the stock 6.5v, together I spent about $60 for the 3 cameras and the OEM camera/unit was around $1250 discounted.

So I am guessing it is cheaper to get the factory backup camera module?

You mounted the display the rear-view mirror? IMHO that is pretty much not acceptable for a Cayenne since it would interfere with the sun-visors, and eliminate the auto-dim feature on the mirrors.

And is there any link to the source? I didn't see one in the audi thread.

Ah - found the links. How big is the actual video display in the rear-view?

It is a same width as the OEM mirror so no interference. These mirror/monitors are a bit darker than regular mirrors. It looks like the auto-dim mirror at night. Here is the monitor.

I sold the camera because it was way to big to mount anywhere and get this instead.
