Default Nail in tire, repair?

i have a nail in a tire. One inch from outer edge. Best type of patch?
Good tread depth left. Never go over 85 mph, so speed rating of tire up to 150 mph unimportant.

Standard tire plug that can be done at almost any gas station. Very easy to do yourself too.

I would take to a good tire shop to patch from the inside, permanent repair done all the time.

Keep in mind those guys at the tyre shop don't give a rat's about your beautiful Porsche wheels. They will get scratched or chipped unless you make a song and dance before hand....ask me how I know! I don't trust those guys as far as I could kick them!

If you go to a decent repair place they do have the equipment to do it right. Most gas stations not only lack the right equipment but they lack a skilled employee that would know how to use it. Not only are your wheels in danger but if they are not aware they will destroy you tire pressure monitor when removing the tire from the wheel. My neighbor took his Lexus to BJ's to have 4 new Michelins installed and they destroyed 3 of 4 TPMs. He went back the next morning and pieces of the monitors were still laying on the floor at the tire mounting/dismounting station. He asked the kid that did the work and he said he know nothing about pressure monitors, but did not damage any of them.

Isn't an inch from the sidewall too close for a patch?

An inch may be just far enough from the edge. Take it to a reputable tire place and not the corner gas station as they will have more knowledge about whether or not there is any damage. And they have the newer patching technology which uses a combination of plug & Patch in one so you get the best of both for a good seal.

Even a good indy will have what it takes, and the knowledge to know if it will work or not.

I plan to remove the wheel, paint the wheel, remount patched tire.
But, how is the plastic center cap removed?
What is the torque setting when mounting the wheel?

According to the 2011 manual:
Tightening torque
Tightening torque for wheel bolts:
118 ftlb. (160 Nm).

The center cap presses out pretty easily from behind once the wheel is off.

You are correct sir. Most tire shops won't plug something that close due to liability and company policy.

There are also two small holes in the center cap, so that they can be removed while the wheel is mounted with a special tool. I was also able to get mine off using a bent coat hanger wire in the hole, and pulling ... but easier from behind if wheel is off.
