Oil consumption. When do I start worrying!?

Changed my oil a few months back and emptied out all the oil sitting in the elbow, changed out that part and all has been well. I received a low oil warning last week while on a road trip and dipstick says MIN. I topped off the engine with a quart of 5W30 Mobil 1 I keep in the pig for these occasions. I know oil consumption is pretty standard but all the way down to MIN inside less than a year? I have no oil leaks btw.

This car has been solid I might add and I have all the service records indicating the expected warranty work was maintained vigilantly. I do, however, have my eye on an '11 Turbo, and am trying to resist...

That is my strategy. Just keep two or 3 quarts in the back, rubber gloves, small disposable funnel, paper towels, etc. It will be interesting to see how much oil spills out of the intercooler elbow this time.

05, and I free hand it by the side of the road usually. I'm annoyed there isn't a warning sooner, when the light comes on it's below MIN. Occassionally I'll remember in between warnings but usually not.

06 TT-S > I go through at leat 12 liters of oil in 10 000km between changes (12,7 quarts in 6200 miles). I pop a 1 liter bottle in approx. every third tank fill-up. I use mobil 1 5w-50.
I'm going to switch to MOTUL 5W-40 and see how it's going to hold up. I don't really think it's gonna make a big difference, but who knows...

I find that with my GTS, the more sportier I drive, the more oil it will consume. On the other hand, if I drive like an old lady (which I have done and regularly do during cold and icy winter months), the oil consumption is minimal-to-none for weeks on end.

I'm hoping my next GTS or Turbo is less oil thirsty....
