Default How much does wheel weight matter?

I've got a set of OZ wheels on my Cayenne Turbo right now and they weigh 45lbs each. I am thinking about selling them and getting some replica Turbo 2 style wheels but they weight 62lbs each.

I know there is a lose of performance with heavier wheels. However, how much would I feel or notice this difference with my car? Our Cayennes already weight a lot and with 450 horsepower, I'm not sure if this is even going to matter.

Thoughts?

Unless you're racing your SUV and trying to pick up a couple tenths of a second per lap, you're never going to notice it.

You won't notice on the street, even though 62 lbs. is a very heavy wheel.

I noticed a profound difference on my GTS when I replaced the OE 21" wheels with 18" Zehn's. Gas mileage (9mpg vs. 12mpg), steering, and acceleration from a dead stop all improved. Albeit, it was a significant reduction in weight.

BTW, worrying about unsprung weight on a Cayenne is about as useful as worrying about where Rosie O'Donnell buys her lingerie...

Unsprung weight can be felt on any vehicle. In general all oem wheels on any car are dang heavy. It's too bad the light wheels that look good cost a bloody fortune.

I think we have the most creative moderator of all forums.
I was always very sensitive thinking about unsprung masses, but since this evening, I will have a parallel in mind, for example, looking at strings, ..and thinking about very light wheels !
