Default Is now a good time to purchase a 09 GTS

I am interested in purchasing a new to me 09 GTS, and was not sure if this is a good time to do so, and what is a good price range.

I am only interested in porsche approved cars, so I am going to one of my local dealers. But I know that the new GTS's were just delivered to the dealers. Should I be attempting to get a even lower price now or maybe wait another month or so to get a even better price. But I don't want to wait to long either.

i've been studying the mkt also. I heard a few things about the Cayenne is general. There's a lot of supply coming off lease. My local dealer has 4 coming in next week. Also I've heard that P Finance is dumping these cars in the wholesale mkt. SO this and the fact that a new model yr is just around the corner and high gas prices makes me believe prices will fall.

I'd like to follow this thread and add my .02 worth: I too am beginning a search for either a Cayenne (2009) or Acura MDX (2011) which are CPO. Budget is $30-40k.

I'm wondering if anyone has also narrowed the SUV choices down to these two (as well as if anyone keeps stumbling over 996 4's that keep distracting them but I digress and I suspect that I would get in trouble if I brought home another 911...but I sure am tempted because I could also rent an SUV when it was truly needed!)

I'm also wondering if I should focus on an earlier Cayennes that have been well-kept and updated where necessary???

There are so many options and so much inventory that this is going to be difficult...

david: we just purchased our second 2008 Cayenne S (the other one is an '06 Cayenne Turbo). GREAT time to buy one.. JUST sold my 996...Considering the lease is just ending for '08 and '09... I think it's a great time to buy.

Thanks for the feedback; yes, I too believe that it is a great time to buy but I' not yet sure if the choice will be an Acura MDX or some Cayenne variant. I'm a bit hesitant to get a Cayenne because I will be letting my two girls (UC students) use the vehicle when they are home from school and they want to go head up to the Sierra; while I know they will not abuse the Cayenne, I suspect that the MDX may be a better all around choice.

One Q: if you don't mind, how much did you pay for the '08 S and how many miles are on the vehicle? (You can PM me this info if you don't want to publicize it.)

I'll keep doing my research and properly start a thread in a couple of weeks with the exact choices I'm considering...thanks again!

Well we have college kids around a lot and given the sides of their lives that I am privy to sometimes... I think the MDX is a MUCH better choice I would not send mine off in the cayenne! However the MDX is quite milquetoast compared to the cayenne... its hard to really compare them.

Thanks for the reality check. I actually believe (stupid me?) that my kids would respect the Cayenne's abilities as they've always been carted around in the various 911s I've care-taked and have come to understand when it is and when it isn't appropriate to drive spiritedly.

That said, I just returned from driving a 2009 ML550 (CPO), less than 30k on the ticker and within my budget. I enjoyed the ride and there is plenty of power...the only obvious negative is poor MPG. I even located another example down in Encino with less than 10k miles for a couple of thousand more.

I'm going to have to noodle this and perhaps even take my girls on some road tests and have a heart-to-heart...sorry again for highjacking this thread...

David - If you'll enjoy the pepper more, why would you consider a MDX based on limited use by your daughters? Especially if you've raised them to appreciate vehicles that drive well and to only engage in enthusiasm with discretion. Especially as an owner of multiple Porsches, you sound like someone that appreciates a vehicle that engages you, vs a simple A-B type of transportation. The pepper is an amazingly well balanced vehicle that will put a smile on your face.

FWIW, I looked at the MDX initially and found it to be competent but not engaging in the least.

Many thanks for the thoughtful reply!

I believe that once I drive each of the three vehicles that I'm considering (2009 Cayenne S, 2009 MB ML550 & 2011 Acura MDX) I'll have a better sense of the direction that I'll be heading.

That said, I anticipate that I'll prefer the driving experience of the Cayenne and while that is an important part of the decision, it isn't the only criteria.

I hope to drive the vehicles on Thursday (with the daughter who is a car enthusiast!) and report back.

I do not believe that the availabilty of the 2013 GTS will have any impact on the value of used 2009 GTS's. What will have an impact is the fact that are quite a few 2009 GTS's that are now coming off of 36 & 39 month leases. There is a lot more supply now then there was when I was looking about 12 months ago.
