Smile Loving my new '08 Cayenne Turbo

Just picked her up last weekend from a local indie dealer, 23K on the clock and a clean one-owner history. My Elcometer read 4.5 on all panels (hoping my wife keeps it that way). Favorite options are PDCC and DVD entertainment for the little guy. Ridiculously fast with PSM off and Sport Mode on. My only "complaint" is the quiet exhaust... might have to do something about that.

Livermore Porsche CPO'd her for $2,800. It was my first visit there, and I was super-impressed with the shop foreman, Manni, and the sales manager, Kevin. I've got two dealers much closer to me (Rector and Carlsen), but chose to drove an hour to Livermore based on their coolness with everything over the whole process. (Rector quoted $3,900 for the CPO, and said they'd have to buy it from the indie dealer first and resell to me, and Carlsen always feels cold and impersonal when I visit.) I tried to buy a front license plate bracket from them, but they came out and said they found a brand new one hidden in a storage compartment in my car – saved $140. (While I was waiting, they let me take a new 991 S out for a spin – nice ride, very fast, truly awesome exhaust note (non-sport). But for $110K, I'll keep my 40 Jahre for now.)

Anyway, I couldn't be happier, the garage looks pretty sweet with two silver P-cars now, and I just want to say how much I appreciate the community here at Rennlist. I've learned so much during my short time here, and hope to contribute back as I learn more about my cars.

Sweet ride, congrats! How does the steering weight of the Cayenne compare with the X5? Coming from an '03 X5 4.4i myself, I still miss the "heavy" feel through the wheel. It was so communicative, I could almost steer through turns by feel, while eyes were checking mirrors and onramps .

It was a real bummer when I test drove an '04 X5 and found out that with the facelift they lightened the steering a lot. They just don't make them like they used too...

Ours was an '04 X5 4.4i, and that is one thing I do miss... the X5 has a heavier, more communicative steering feel, especially at highway speeds. If you think the '04 X5 is light, you're gonna think the '08 CTT is steer-by-wire. Not that the CTT is bad, mind you – it just requires a little more attention to where you're pointed, since you don't as easily feel changes in lateral Gs when you drift offline. My 996 gives far better steering feedback at highway speeds, even with a very light front end, so I suspect it's mostly a matter of having the power steering over-boosted in the CTT. Or maybe the 21s have something to do with it.

Welcome to the P!G pen and congratulations on your new acquisition.

"Judging by the car you have chosen, you are a motorist of a special breed, and you are probably no novice when it comes to automobiles"
Excerpt from the Porsche Owners Manual. For as long as I can remember and in all my Porsche autombiles (dating back to the late 1970's), this phrase has been published on the front inside cover.
