You're telling me that 958+ do not have opening rear windows? That would indeed be a big negative... on top of the big ugly rear as a negative.

My wife caught me already configuring a Panamera last night, a GTS. She saw a $44k on the screen and rolled her eyes walking away. I told her "babe, that is just the price of the upgrades, you still have to throw in another 110k for the car."

A man can dream cant he?

A small microswitch under the wiper pivot point or through the remote.

Soooooooo, spending $40k on a new car saved you the "possibility" of spending a few thousand in repairs?

We have put more money in repairs into my moms 70k mile Toyota Camary then into my 100k 2004 CTT

I'm sure the 4runner is nice and I'm glad it makes you feel better to have one.

You have a point with a few grand vs. 40k......however it would be a few grand to get it perfect "for now" and I really needed more piece of mind. I can't see myself dumping in the amount of money needed to repair something major on the car.

Yes. The hinges are at the top and the rear window swings out from the base. Not the best arrangement but IMHO better than no opening window at all.

I just drove my 2004 4Runner off a 20 ft cliff and walked with out a scratch, glad I wasn't in another car. While looking for a replacement I really wanted to go for a used Cayenne turbo, however, wife won the fight so we just got a 2012 4Runner - it's a nice car.

Now I'm looking for a really really cheap Cayenne turbo

Rear opening windows is nice, but I'd much rather be driving the 958 even if I had to give up this window.

We bought our Cayenne used about a year and a half ago, I'd already done extensive research on the car so I knew about the coolant pipe problems going in. First week of ownership I barely drove it, as I took the intake manifold off to see what pipes I had, and I already had the upgraded aluminum piping.

Next problem that we had was that the rear trunk supports were shot and would not keep the hatch raised, but I bought it knowing they were weak and would need replacing.

After about a year of ownership, the check engine light came on, and my Durametric told me that it was a camshaft position sensor. Bought a new sensor for about $100, put it in myself, and all was well.

All told, I've had to spend about $300 in parts for the car over 1.5 years. Not bad IMO. These engines don't have any "fatal flaws" beyond the coolant pipe issue, although the electrical stuff can go haywire from time to time. I'm pretty happy with the reliability so far.

If I had a used car out of warranty that constantly gave me pricey problems every month or two I'd ditch it too no matter what brand. My shortest ownership was an '05 Accord V6. Only thing I missed about it were the 6 cup holders. Owned it a year and labeled it a transition car from day 1. No problems with it, just boring. Friend of mine was having problems with a German car, got rid of it for a new Japanese car and is having problems with that now! Sometimes you just get unlucky.
