Default Waxing...or something else

Hi Guys,

I'm looking for your opinions. So I was wondering after your car has been washed, what do you do next? For example, do you go straight to wax.....or something else?

Also is there a consensus to what works best in both result and effort required (not machine polishing)...what products do you favour?

My Pig is black, I have recently tried Meguires pre-polish followed by Zymol with carnuba wax, after the pre-polish was applied the paint went "blacker" and the wax emphasized this even more....so a great result for several hours work!

Cheers Frutti

If I'm going to wax, it's wash, clay bar, polish, wax.

Lots of useful advice in the Concours forum.

Everytime I wash my Cayenne I curse at the water streak that runs down everywhere after drying. So I send it to detailers now to save me all the headache. They know what to do with dark colors and based on the rate they charge, it certainly is a lot cheaper than doing it myself.

Mine is -
  • Wash
  • Check if there is embedded dirt, if so wash again with warm water and dish detergent (removes the old wax)
  • Check again - if it still feels rough - clay
  • Then two stages of polish, a glaze and then one of the synthetic topcoats
  • Sometimes followed by a coat of pure carnuba
That results in a shiny wet-look finish that actually lasts for a few weeks.

Easier to do on my M-Coupe.. but I've done the Cayenne this way. Having a Porter-Cable orbital-polisher with all the different pads makes the polishing go a whole lot faster.

Wash, clay bar, wax. After the clay bar, I'll do whatever is necessary to polish out random scratches, spots, etc. before waxing.

What is a fella to do about big globs of cured tree sap? I have some globs sitting on top of my finish that i noticed on the last wash. I was tempted to pick one off like the unsightly scab that it is but was afraid of scratches. What type of solvent will dissolve it and not the clear coat?

had my cars extensively detailed while I was away... my guy washed it, clayed, did a couple of rounds of polishing (was really bad as I take the p!g offroading) and then waxed.
looks like new, the only thing that is remaining unsolved is the stainless trim - it's corroded after a really harsh winter. I'll probably coat it with a different color.

Does anybody have a preference on polish/wax that can be picked up at an Autozone/Advance instead of ordering online?

I have had some success with citronella.
I follow up with a wash and re-wax to stop the acid.

FIFY.

Now back to your regularly scheduled thread.

Cordachine - Why not order on-line? Lot's of good stuff with good prices.

Fruitti - sorry I am little late to this party, but see this thread for my process, very similar to the folks here.

https://rennlist.com/forums/porsche-...fresh-wax.html

Cordachine - Meguiars NXT 2.0 can be picked up at any Advance, AutoZone, Walmart, Target/etc. It is lasting pretty good after 6 months as a daily driver. I also recommend One Grand Blitz for an extremely long-lasting carnauba. Used it on my Boxster S. You need to buy that online.
