3rd Row Seat?
Well, since we are on practicality, then I have to ask.
Is there a 3rd Row seat option on the cayenne? Does anyone know of one for the aftermarket, or dealer install?
This would make it perfect.

Are you guys Cayenne owners? Its an SUV. It is practicality with a twist of fear. I would want a third row seat if it was to be a second car. The Volvo SUV is SMALLER then the Cayenne, and it has a third row seat.
Can we have some cayenne owners come into this thread please?

Brendan, I own a deposit on a C-T to be delivered in August. I don't want a 3rd seat in mine. The Cayenne is a little bigger than my Grandokee and it's big enough.
If you want an SUV with 3 seat rows, you'll have to buy something else.
IMO the Cayenne is excellent at everything it attempts; I believe some of that would be compromised by additional passenger capacity.

I am an owner, if you go to the galleries you will see my S. I just came from an ML430, which was ruined when Benz bowed to the pressure and added a 3rd row. When its an afterthought its never good.
The Pepper is NOT intended as a 3 row, any attempt would be sub par due to the design underneath the car.
Stick with the Volvo

I am also an owner. You are indeed right that this vehicle should be practical since it's an SUV. With that said however, there is absolutley no use for a 3rd row of seats in a Porsche. Having a usable 2nd row is more than practical for a Porsche in my book. The 3rd row belongs to Suburbans and other soccer mom SUVs, not performance oriented SUVs with off-road ability. Notice Range Rovers do not have a 3rd row option either. Mudman is correct that if yuo want a 3rd row, you should probably stick with the Volvo or Honda Pilot/Acura MDX type vehicles.

I have no wish for a hondacura, as I call them. The volvo IS an option, as it can be modified once past warantee.
Mud - what ruined the ML with those flip down seats? Getting a used ML55 is an option for me as well in the short term.
I can see that the Cayenne is perfect with its two rows of usable seats. Its like a big fast sedan that can go get dirty, right?
I really think I need to drive one.

We replaced our Honda Odyssey with a Cayenne S. We rarely used the rear seats of the Odyssey and figured it was better to have a smaller vehicle that we could add cargo capacity to (roof-mounted cargo carrier in our case) when needed. We felt this was preferable to driving around a bus-like vehicle all the time when we very rarely needed that much room.
The Cayenne is plenty big enough for our two kids (second one due this August) and dog. We plan to use a roof-mounted cargo carrier for luggage, etc. on longer trips.
I'm not sure I'd be comfortable with a 3rd row seat on something the size of a Volvo wagon. What kind of crash-test results have they had with that configuration? I doesn't seem like there'd be much to protect 3rd row occupants. That's certainly the case withe the S6 Avant and Audi allroad. Not sure about the Volvo, but I wouldn't assume it based on their safety reputation alone.

No offence taken Brendan, you might want to think twice about going for a drive. You WILL be converted.
Ask them for an overnight loaner. I did to my wifes regret. (lexus person, what can I say, I was already hitched when I found out)

Hell, I don't want to have to get a suburban and then lower it, get bigger wheels, and then put a supercharger on it to make sure I still have enough fun driving. That may have to be the case short term though. I would much rather have a big sedan with some cargo space. The cayenne is perfect. Obviously the turbos will be out of my price range for a few years still, but some used Cayenne Ss should be hitting the market in a year or so.
Come to think of it, new GMC with the cool grill 45k, bigger wheels, lower suspension - 5k, Supercharger 6k, thats 56k. Anybody seen any good used Cayenne S deals? <img border="0" alt="[jumper]" title="" src="graemlins/jumper.gif" />

Unless you need a tow car, don't buy a Sub or a Tahoe (I know, I've got a Tahoe...) Actually, just don't buy a Chev at all. The build quality and road noise are appalling. The Ford Expedition ('03) seems to be doing well for a friend (and equally easily supercharged, if not to the same total hp.)

There's a company that makes third row seats for Land Rovers that could make one to bolt into the Cayenne.
