Default Transmission Oil for Cayenne

I have a 2004 Cayenne V6.

I have a few questions about changing transmission oil.

1. How often should we change the transmission oil?

2. How many quarts of transmission oil do we need?

3. What brand and grade do you guys recommend?

Thanks a lot for all the advice.

Might want to try a search on transmission oil/fluid, this has been discussed before and if I remember correctly the Porsche fluid recommendation sheet is attached to one thread.

What brand do you think Porsche is private labeling with the Porsche branded fluid found at the dealer?

For the transmission oil, someone told me that it needs 6 quarts of oil and each one cost $12. Is he correct? How come the transmission oil is so expensive?

I just checked that site for 0-40...$13.50 + shipping per quart, too rich for me....local NAPA has it at $5.95/ quart...pays to check around.

Default 2013 Cayenne Base Transmission Fluid

Spent most of the day draining and changing all the fluids underneath the Cayenne. 77,000 miles. Used Porsche 75W90 in both differentials because it was on hand. Fuchs 5005 ATF for the transfer case. Very easy to do. (8mm allen socket). The Tiptonic S transmission was a bit of a challenge. Purchased drain plug, pan gasket, o-ring for the filter and filter from Sunset Porsche, (best prices). Motul Multi ATF from FCPEuro.com for 12.99 per liter delivered. Ordered 9, used 6.5 liters. Carefully measured the 6.5 liters that drained out. The pan was time consuming to remove but certainly manageable. The filter was easy. 10mm socket for pan and filter. Just don't forget to confirm that the old o-ring comes out with the old filter. There was no fill plug on the bottom of the pan! After searching everywhere, a 55T torx plug was located on the top right of the transmission. Using a mirror helped to locate the plug. Had to use a crowfoot on the 55T to remove it. Once removed, it was very easy to hand pump the fluid in. The theory is that adding exactly the same amount of fluid at the same temperature that was removed results in a proper fill. Not running the car while on jack stands seemed much safer. It worked like a charm. The old oil was pretty dirty but not burnt. The four magnets were covered in very fine paste. Brake cleaner was used to clean the pan and the magnets.

Mosul products are first rate. Next time, I will use Motul Multi ATF in the transfer case and Motul 75w90 LS in the differentials.

Result: Smooth as silk.

Next Change: Probably half the time to complete. 2-4 hours at most.

Mobil 3309 for the fluid.

The filter is a screen. No need to replace. A decent wash in any cleaning fluid is all you need. Unless you have extra money you have no need for. The go ahead and buy a new one
