Need a used exhaust part for an '05 V6.
I took my P!g in for inspection and there's an exhaust leak at the front, somewhere in the neighborhood of the catalytic converter. The mechanic is quoting $1,400 for the new part and a couple hours of labor. Does anyone have a line on a used exhaust?
TIA!

Sorry Shawn, you are SOL, I am going through the same thing on my Touareg. Most people only remove cats for something illegal or if a car is totaled
If I am a betting man, I would say 2 things.
The VW Part is probably the same and cheaper (Same V6 engine from what I understand on the 1.0 models).
It is the flex pipe in a difficult location and requires removal of the exhaust headers etc and it is 2 cats to replace which is around 7 hours labor.
Of course if he is talking the single 2nd cat, you can probably find that somewhere, but I would just remove it and do my nasty hack on my V8, same idea just a little different. https://rennlist.com/forums/porsche-...***-pipes.html
Dealer rates add up fast.
Try to find someone to replace the flex pipe. You can see the part you need in my post below. I am planning on going to my indy next weekend, will let you know how it goes if you are interested.

Well, I got this news on Friday afternoon and I was ***-deep in something at work, so I didn't give it a lot of thought at the time. I'll need to call my indy this morning and confirm the part, once I have that I can resume shopping.

Just got off the phone and, yeah: flex pipe. Exploring solutions...

One of my mechanic's suppliers swears the Touareg part is a direct replacement for half the cost of the Porsche part. So, not cheap, but not ***-rapingly expensive, either...
Now, their quick guess on the labor was 'a couple hours'; hopefully that will more-or-less hold true.

I just had the flex pipe on mine replaced.
They had to remove the manifold and the cats, so $500 or so in labor for that. Then weld in the new flex pipe.
I am out the door for $630, better than the $2200+ quoted from the dealer.

Let me call the indy who did the work for me. I *highly* recommend going for the Touareg part. It's half the price of the Porsche part. Fitting the Touareg part required cutting off a bracket, but after that it's just a bolt-in.
