Looks nice if you could stretch to an '09 model you could get the updated PCM too. I'm sure you'd enjoy it as is though!

I see what you mean. The lack of bluetooth is not good.

Default Power liftgate operation and availability questions

I know the power hatch is not as much of a neccessity for most folks but it it is for me. Pleaase pardon my beating this subject into the ground.

I played with a 2008 S then I downloaded the User's manual and read the section on the liftgate but I'm not sure I understand how the liftgate operates.

If I have it right, it can be opened from the outside handle on the liftgate, from the button on the key fob and the button in the driver's door pocket. BUT it can only be closed from button on the hatch. Is this right? I expected to be able to close it from the key fob and the drivers door. I even tried the door switch with the ignition on but no luck.

Also, was the power liftgate an available option prior to 2008. I searched and it doesn't look like it but figured it couldn't hurt to ask.

Once can see the logic behind this engineering. They likely want you to be visably looking at the opening as it closes, just in case the body in the luggage compartment has an arm hanging out or something like that..

Funny, deilenberger! But, I do agree with this logic. I pay extra attention when closing the lift gate when my dog is in the back. Just want to make sure that I don't shut it on his tail.

Thanks for the feedback. I also understand the logic. My GLK detects obstructions (via load current I think). Not what I was hoping to hear but it's good to know the real 411.

Not one to change the subject or anything but....I tried the power gate on a 2012 BMW X6 yesterday and there was virtually no motor noise whatsoever; unlike the elephant cry for help noise that ours emits....

Surely you jest....
When my GTS was in for service a few weeks ago, the '10 S loaner that I drove made the same whining noise; something similar to two elephants going at it in the jungle or better, the landing gear of a 747 in the process of deploying; both of which I must thankfully admit that I have not witnessed up close.

Not at all, I would describe mine as audible but not noticeable.
